Welcome!
I learned some amount of [java]script via converting a game made using Blocks, to [java]script, then trying to figure out what does what.
Although, I’ve had experience in Python, BASIC, and some amount of Lua, so I was already quite exposed to common patterns in programming languages, which certainly helped.

You can build the project in all three languages – Blocks, JavaScript, and Python – and each language has five levels. Along the way, you learn to use Richard’s Mini Menu extension as well as the Settings extension. There is a ton of planning that goes into these skillmaps … and all of that happens before any writing! Just planning…

Hey welcome to the community. JavaScript/TypeScript in MakeCode is huge; not just in MakeCode Arcade, but as a universal language. Using JavaScript may be complicated at first. If you don’t know already, I’d start with blocks in MakeCode then work your way towards your first typing language. I have a guide on learning MakeCode Arcade, but since Google Docs is banned on here, you may want to start here:

> **[JavaScript](https://arcade.makecode.com/javascript)**
>
> The Microsoft MakeCode programming environment uses JavaScript along with the Static TypeScript language.

Once you learn the fundematals, you can start learning all the advanced features such as **types, enums, classes, creating extensions, etc.**

At that point, you’ll **be ready for other languages such as Python, HTML, etc.!**

Ah, I know a few fans but I haven’t watched the show myself. If you’re learning JavaScript I would start by making something in blocks and then converting to JavaScript to see what it becomes! That’s how I learned. If you have questions and you try to look them up, the language is technically TypeScript, so that will turn up better results.
Here is the general Makecode documentation:

> **[Developer Tips and Tricks](https://arcade.makecode.com/developer)**
>
> If you want to customize and extend the Arcade game experience, or just code you games for better performance,
> this page directs you to several topics with helpul tips and guidance.

And here is the documentation specifically for what the Makecode version of TypeScript supports:

> **[MakeCode Languages: Blocks, Static TypeScript and Static Python](https://makecode.com/language)**
>
> MakeCode programs can be authored in Blocks, Static TypeScript or Static Python.

First thing you would want to learn is to get the basics down, variables, functions, for loops, etc. from there you can learn what what function does and use that to make your own arcade games.
My best piece of advice? Write something in block code then convert it to js to see what it would look like.

I think maybe the best way to learn it is by reading books/reddit or watching something, trial and error, and converting blocks to js. The best way for you might be different, but I taught myself by reading “javascript for dummies”, then trial and error.
