# JavaScript Game jam!
I’ve wanted to host this for a while now, and I think with school almost over it’s a good time! **The theme will be announced on this Saturday, June 7th** and it will last 30 days. The winners will be decided by community vote, and I’ll probably have a top 3 list, if enough people participate. I’m really excited to see more people try out javaScript, even if it’s only a small project! You can also code in Python if you prefer. Just like the normal game jams, you don’t necessarily need to start a fresh new project, but I would highly encourage you to do so, as it’s not super fair to reuse an old one due to the head start it gives you. I will be making a game for this, but I will not be in the final vote (cause I’m just so good it would be unfair 🙃) If this gets enough participants, I’ll make a dev log for those who want to learn / see how I make my games!

**I’M IN**! I might have to start later, cause I want to actually make a game for this mini game jam. Pretty unlucky how it worked out. I have never made a game in JavaScript before this, **but now is my time to graduate from all the knowledge blocks has given me,** then stop when its done hehehehe
Also, wouldn’t it be a good idea for everyone to do this to prevent cheating

Might as well. I was actually intending to make a Unity platformer first and then to make a MakeCode rhythm game but I can change that order a bit in that case.

Are we allowed to start coding the game now or should we start at June 7th? I was gonna do some preperations in the case that we are allowed to do that such as making a makecode rhythm game engine

You can prepare as much as you want. The theme is gonna be pretty vague, so you could probably do some basic character and title screen stuff and then fit it to the theme later.

Well, I’m not going to sign myself up to be judged or anything, but I’ve started a dev log [here](https://forum.makecode.com/t/javascript-game-jam-dev-log/37177) to give people some idea of my coding process, etc, as well as to provide a place for people to ask me questions related to JavaScript and stuff. I would also be very bored for a month if I wasn’t participating!

Grahhh! This is such a cool idea and theme, if only I wasn’t caught up in the [CK4 finale](https://forum.makecode.com/t/coder-king-4/28305)! (As in I wish I had time for both…)
My most recent games ([Sammy Singer](https://forum.makecode.com/t/unique-a-thon-2-finale-non-official-game-jam/33962) and my [upcoming CK4 game](https://forum.makecode.com/t/coder-king-3-legends/19667/371)) have both been in JavaScript but neither really involve floating 😆

I’d also like to drop out. It’s badly interfering with my ability to learn Unity which was my goal before the game jam. Additionally I’m having a very hard time actually figuring out any decent ideas with the theme of floating.
Maybe some other time I could participate in a game jam. It’s just currently not feasable for me

Ok so I have made a big oopsie and I just so happen to be leaving for a summer camp job on July 7th, which is the day the game jam is supposed to end. We have a few options here, so I’m gonna do some polls and see what happens.

Ok, well, since this is gonna get approved late, I’m gonna say y’all should do whatever y’all want when it comes to your games. If this gets approved before the message with the polls, the context is that I’m gonna be working at a summer camp for 4 weeks starting the 7th (tmr).
I’ll still have my phone, but idk if I’ll be messaging a lot on here. I expect y’all to be nice and help people with their bugs and such while I’m gone 🫡. I will play all your games when I get back in 4 weeks, or maybe while I’m there if I have time. (Nice dragon BLADEr)
Be nice when commenting on others’ games and code! We are all still learning. Even me! I’m still learning that I shouldn’t make promises about writing dev logs for games. Especially ones that look good in my head but end up being a lot more work than I thought. Idk what’s going to happen with that space game, maybe I’ll continue it one day, but I’ll probably steal the text box code for another project. (Not a lot of rhythm games in Makecode, huh…)
Anyways, whatever happens with that poll will decide how we move forward, but those who aren’t going to have a finished game by tomorrow are encouraged to keep coding! No matter how late you are I’ll still play and probably review your code.
