I was bored and decided to remake PVZ as best as I could. I’ve seen a few other amazing attempts at making it, but I feel they’re all flawed in one way or another. Here’s my “definitive” version of it! Keep in mind, it’s far from done.
Also check out @BlueYoshi507 's version of PVZ! It’s really good as well:
Small update: Added AI and animations for repeater, as well as finalizing the lawn art. I know this is a small update, but I was just too proud of the house to not share! (Please look at the house)
Update Beta 1.1: Finally added sun and recharging. Sunflower now produces sun and sun falls from the sky. Lawn art is slightly updated. Wallnut and potato mine have AI now, but are still incomplete. (Plant wall nut on top of zombie to see its damage states). Also, updates will be numbered from now on!
In the next update or two, the game should be playable with zombie AI and stuff,
I figured out I could increase the resolution, so now it’s 192x144 instead of 160x120. Here’s the new lawn to fit it! I’m really proud of it, and it’s a lot more accurate to the original.
@WoofWoof , what would be a better way for coding the cursor? Right now it’s a giant block that checks its location as well as recharge and sun cost every frame, and it alone tanks the framerate a noticeable amount. The one thing I’m most worried about is performance
I don’t have my laptop right now, but I’ll just say that sprites don’t get removed from arrays when they “die”, so make sure you are removing sprites from that currentSun array. Other than that I’ll have to take a better look when I have my computer, probably Monday.
I meant changing the cursor as in making the code more efficient, not making it an actual cursor . I wanted to make the controls like the console version, cause clicking and dragging every sun and plant is really annoying. Thanks though!
One small criticism i have is the slight “meh” ness of the cursor. It feels to quick yet too slow, im thinking maybe making the cursor snap onto a tile when stopped being moved.
One thing that i see is improved from the og Game is how you select seeds, im not a big fan of drag & drop, and saying how it’s more simpler, it’s a good improvement!
The sound effects & Music are good! I just feel like the music has too many instruments or just that the volumes too loud.
This is a amazing remake (so far) and hope your editor doesn’t brake down!
