Simulator not updating automatically

Sometimes, when I have added some things to a project, the simulator stops updating automatically with my new code. I’ve found that if I click on Javascript or Python and then on Blocks, that seems to trigger an update. Is this something I am causing? Is there a way to turn on or off the automatic updates>
