I mean I think it’s decent for chiptune music, there have been many advances recently ish, these are the most notable ones that come to my mind (see my post which links to more tools near the bottom):
- (self-promotion) MIDI to MakeCode Arcade converter…again by me, a Python tool, but has many features (GM 1’s 127 instruments plus all drum notes in different tracks, per-note velocity, lyrics, etc. see the post for more details) - there are demos you can listen to
- MakeCode Midi Converter by Richard that works in the browser, designed around MakeCode Arcade’s limitations including the default instruments
