Dr. Shane Wines is a distinguished educator, researcher, and leader in the field of computer science education. With over a decade of experience teaching and coordinating middle and high school computer science programs, he currently serves as both the Computer Science Coordinator and a high school teacher for Calvert County Public Schools. He facilitates professional development for the Maryland Center for Computing Education and Code in the Schools, mentors computer science educators, and was named Calvert County’s 2020 STEM Teacher of the Year. A recipient of the Maryland Governor’s Citation, Dr. Wines also served as president of the Maryland Chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association, leading a statewide network of over 500 educators who advocate for accessible and high-quality computer science instruction.

In 2024, Dr. Wines earned his Doctor of Education in Instructional Technology from the American College of Education. His dissertation, “Teachers’ Perceptions of Gamification in an Advanced Placement Computer Science Course,” examined the impact of gamified learning on instructional quality. He has presented at multiple K12 computer science conferences, sharing best practices in pedagogy, curriculum design, and classroom innovation. He continues to champion STEM education, focusing on scalable strategies to engage and inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.

Most recently, Dr. Wines was selected as an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow (AEF), a prestigious national program that places accomplished STEM educators in federal agencies and congressional offices to contribute their classroom expertise to education policy and program development. During his fellowship year, he is serving with the U.S. Department of Defense/Navy STEM, where he will design interactive computer science and AI learning experiences, create professional development opportunities for K–12 educators, and help align Naval STEM initiatives with workforce development goals.
