Competitive Apple Picking Game Gets National Coverage

Been meaning to post this little story about my class and how our Arcade game got picked up by the provincial news outlet, and then went national.

The class focused on Scratch, Microbit, and Arcade. Our final unit had the group working on a range of Arcade projects. We collaborated on a group project as well.

Our group project, Apple Valley Harvest, featured local farms from our rural community here in Nova Scotia, Canada. It’s a pretty straight forward 1 or 2 player game. Collect the apples falling from the sky. You can check it out here.

We toured our projects around out community by placing our Arcade cabinet at local cafes and libraries. The CBC, which is a major broadcaster here in Canada, approached us about the class, and specifically, this game.

We ended up recording a 4 minute video about the class and the game. The best part was getting one of the old timer local farmer represented in the game out to play the game with his grandkids. The video was broadcast on CBC TV, radio, both provincially and nationally.

Way fun!
