I like the VSC extension, but the lack of debugger is a deal breaker for me, so I unfortunately can’t use it

it does indeed, but note the makecode extension in the sidebar!

It doesn’t seem to be there, I had to add it manually

Makecode logs the path and where the crash occurred if it does happen in the output terminal

But there’s not a debugger which lets you step through your code like on the site

there will be eventually, i just need time to work on it. i actually had the debugger in vscode working at some point many years ago (before the extension ever existed) but we never ended up shipping it.
