Here’s New Identity! It’s not done (AT ALL.)
I’m releasing this project as open-source, both to encourage remixing (sorry for the Scratch reference lmao) and to maybe motivate myself to work on it again.
It might not be obvious, but Ridge Racer Type 4 was a huge inspiration for this game. It’s one of my all-time favorites. This obsession with a nearly 30-year-old game pushed me to create something beyond my usual style, not just technically but also aesthetically. That’s why you’ll see some of my humble attempts at music composition and what was meant to be an awesome racing game experience.
Honestly, I’m pretty proud of the “music” (if I can call it that). The opening menu song, aptly titled “Menu,” is a simple Jersey club beat, but it has a catchy rhythm. “Warmed Up,” the song for the only level in the game, is my attempt at a drum-n-bass beat. While I give myself credit for noticing the repetitive melody, it’s only a 2-measure loop, so maybe not.
The visuals are pretty cool, especially the startup sequence. Plus, the 3D spinning sphere is genuinely real-time rendered, which is a nice touch.
The game’s plot involves joining an “illegal computer hijacking team” as the lead hijacker, racing against other teams to take control of computer systems. As you progress through the levels/courses, the suspect computers’ users become more prominent, leading to increasingly challenging races. It’s not a bad plot, honestly.
This project was created during a time when MakeCode was my lifeblood. And while life changes, the work you produce during good times doesn’t. I’m posting this understanding that I likely won’t develop much more for this project or platform. However, I wanted to reminisce on a happier time. MakeCode wasn’t a burden or a distraction; it was everything to me. I poured my heart into every project file I started. When my focus shifted, I knew it was time to step back.
I know some of you won’t read this whole thing, but if you did, thank you. This was a bit of a random rant, but I wanted to express my gratitude. This platform meant a lot to me, but it isn’t meant for me any longer. This is my way of signing out, for now at least.
Thank you for everything.
P.S. This post is a draft that’s been sitting for a while, and that stupid rant is something I just did. So that sort of justifies the tone-switch lol.
