🌠 Weekly Topic: Favorite thing about the Night Sky

(Sources, Nasa Documents)
When stars are formed hydrogen atoms come together forming massive amounts of heat witch makes plasma, so yes stars are made of plasma. Also stars are not balls of fire, and technically not on fire. The heat from atoms joining together causes the heat and light you see coming from stars.
And yes, we are stars, in some way! The materials that make up our bodies were made in stars, over a long period of time. So while we may not be emitting heat and light like stars we still mostly made from stars!

I just find science really cool. I study space outside of MakeCode and it’s pretty cool .

When you said “you’re literally 100% star”, that doesn’t sound like facts.

Okay, I searched it up, and you were right.

I wasn’t arguing. I made a statement.

Nope, when you said “everything is made out of stars” is not true. I’ve been in school for years, and never have I heard that “everything is made out of stars”.

Never heard of that in school.

I searched it up, and you’re right. My mistake!

Hmm…

Not stars.

(Source: American Museum of Natural History) Even though these elements aren’t actually a star, they are still made inside a star.

And while school teaches you a lot, it doesn’t teach you everything. That’s why there are cool books, articles and other resources to learn from!

Who is “Malaysia”???

No. These materials were made naturally, not by a star. There’s been no proof of “everything’s made of stars”, just some statements. The ground is made out of dirt, a bowl is (usually) made out of plastic, not a star.

Nothing about stars.

I said NEBULAE, that’s the foundation of everything that currently exists! I didn’t say you’re a star, I said you’re star dust.

Yes you did.

I think you mean Solar System.

I’m pretty sure the American Museum of Natural History wouldn’t just put statements in articles. Plus they have done research themselves to prove this. Why would they say we come from stars if there was no evidence to prove that in the first place?

Bro :skull:

Octodemon JUST explained why all of those elements are made with the matter of a star (aka STARDUST, like I said earlier).

FWIW, the only place in the solar system where fire can be found is on our third rock from Sol. We’re likely not unique in the universe, but we also would not be able to detect fire at any great distance. We’d only be making educated guesses.

Again, thank you all for your informed posts. Please keep the conversation going! The night sky is an inspiring space and a view into our collective past.

kid, tell me you failed geography without telling me you failed geography

Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia (SEA), and a pretty famous one at that. Also, the message isn’t even confusing enough that you’d mistake Malaysia for a person.

As a Malaysian myself i find this response very offensive as you are showing complete ignorance regarding MY country (and showing complete disrespect toward others in this forum)

I feel for ya, @Luke .

I grew up in a rather rural part of Michigan. The night skies were dark, and we had gorgeous views of the stars on clear nights. I camped in a tent in my front yard many summer evenings, just gazing at the night sky.

I live in a more urban environment now. The light pollution isn’t quite as bad as you have where you’re at, but if I’m downtown, then only a handful of the brightest stars are visible.

For those of you with obscured views of the night sky, you may be interested in the International Dark Sky Places. There is one about four hours from me, and they have a beautiful environment for star gazing.

For something less formal, check out your nearby park services. Many of them are situated far enough from city lights that light pollution is minimal. Or have a sleepover at a friend’s house who lives in the countryside. Pack a tent and a sleeping bag and enjoy conversing with the stars.

The first time seeing the Milky Way is awesome, and the amazement really never goes away no matter how many times I see it. If you’ve never seen it, then you’ll literally be star struck.[1]

[1] OK, that’s technically figurative language … but it’s as close to literally being star struck as any of us will get.

SO! LUCKY!

I live in the center of some massive estate, but I’m always SO DETERMINED to go out and see the stars lol, and THE MOON.

So, ever time the night sky is clear, 8 year old me would scuttle over to a nearby field, armed with his trusty lil telescope, and then I’d just look :upside_down_face:

My favourite constellation that I continuously see is Orion. I don’t know why I love it so much. Maybe just the contrast of Betelgeuse and Rigel from each other whenever I see it is pretty cool.

Then there’s my favourite star! calling all Harry Potter fans My favourite star is Sirius, in Canis Major! Actually the brightest star in the night sky. Also, fun fact, there are actually TWO siriuses! There’s Sirius A and B! Sirius B is a white dwarf orbiting remarkably close to Sirius A. Isn’t that “Sirius”ly cool?

Now, favourite PLANET… well, WITHIN the solar system, my favourite planet is Jupiter! It’s overall the most interesting planet we have in our little home! With so many interesting moons… Io, Europa, GANYMEDE (bigger than Mercury), so interesting! Lemme go through em.

So, Io is like an acid volcano wasteland  . It’s honestly one of my favourites, cuz YOU CAN SEE the geysers and volcanoes on its exterior!

Europa could hold POTENTIAL LIFE. It has water under its crust, meaning bacteria may have primed there. Humans are planning to go there at some point.

Ganymede, is just a regular moon, BUT SUPERSIZED! It would be a planet if it stopped orbiting Jupiter, which is just CRAZYYYYYY…

And now my true favourite planet… is not inside the solar system…

It’s called j1407b. It basically has the largest ring span scientists have ever seen! Look it up if you’re interested!
