☕ Weekly Topic: Favorite Warm Drink

Milo!! Like, the Nigerian milo? Aka hot chocolate, lol, yeah I’ve had it!

It’s really hard for me to decide a favorite between these four because they’re so good on different occasions: hot apple cider, herbal tea, hot chocolate, and chai.

I think, though, that if I had to choose one warm drink for the rest of my life, I would go with hot chocolate. It’s too cozy and sweet and tasty to pass up.

PS for the herbal tea lovers here, I highly recommend trying a berry herbal tea. I have loose leaf berry tea from a local tea shop and it is my go to for tea.

For those who answer/answered hot chocolate, do you have a favorite base? What are your thoughts on peppermint hot chocolate?

I love using vanilla oat milk as my base and, when the opportunity presents itself, I will almost always add peppermint to my hot chocolate.

Yeah go hot chocolate!
I like it because after skiing for 3 hours in -15 degree (Celsius) weather it’s soo good to have hot chocolate.

Like @richard in a previous life, I am a coffee snob. Fresh grounds, boiling water, a decent coffee press (also called a French press)… It’s splendid. A handful of roasters do whole-bean decaf, which often are decent, but they still contain caffeine and just aren’t the real thing.

Sadly, I’m at the office more than I used to be, and all we have here are these awful Keurig machines. I really need to get some proper equipment in here!

When I don’t want the harshness of coffee, I typically go for Earl Grey. The caffeine in tea has a different impact, and I really enjoy the hint of bergamot in Earl Grey. As with coffee, I’m a total tea snob, too. Loose leaf, water just off the boil, proper steeping time, a nice ceramic or cast-iron tea pot… Yeah, I’m high maintenance when it comes to my drinks. When I’m winding down for the day, a nice herbal tea is lovely. I’m a fan of mint teas, but the great thing about herbal teas is the variety. So many wonderful flavors to enjoy!

Cocoa powder, a sweetener of your choice, a touch of peppermint, and hot milk make for the perfect hot chocolate. Chocolate squares work, too, but they’re a bit messier and more stubborn. The velvety texture of oat milk is particularly nice, too!

For get-togethers in the autumn and winter, I love making mulled cider. I don’t drink it often because I don’t need that much sugar in my diet, but it takes the bite off of a chilly day.

And the obligatory Starbucks beverage: I don’t go often, but their chestnut praline latte in the winter is hands-down my favorite beverage there. Handmade, homemade beverages are always superior, though.

Heh … I’m quite the beverage snob! The experience is to be savored as much as the drink!
