Oooh I’m surprised I was in this, didn’t think I was still relevant

Yes! Nice job!
How did you do the spider?! It looks soo good!
Yup! I called it a Spooder cause it only has 4 legs, but I have a semi-generalized way to create bug… things… now so I’ll probably be making more stuff with them later! Maybe even a normal 8 legged spider lol
Might as well put this here I guess:
It follows your cursor!
I’ll keep updating it till it looks… normal…? I have to figure out how to keep the elbow joints a certain direction. Either forward or backwards I haven’t decided (probably forwards, the opposite of how they normally are at the moment) and I think that shouldn’t be too hard. It runs at an ok fps for now, but if I make something with tilemaps and sprites it will probably need some optimization…
Anyways enjoy! It’s pretty full of comments if you want to try to understand how it works!
I think crab is a better depiction
american ant
there’s also a collossus ant
american ant wins low diff
her ya go
Yay, I finished it! I feel this is my best game so far, and I’d be grateful if you play it
Make sure to read through the instructions or else you’ll find yourself very confused.
I guess I read “Did you do the spider?” the first time. How I did the spider is a more complicated question. First, the legs aren’t making the spider move. The body moves, and the legs adjust to make it look… correct… ish? Idk.
The legs are defined by an end segment length,
a body-attached segment length,
a body attachment point defined by a rotation (so it can easily be made relative to the spider rotation) and a distance from the center (polar coordinates),
a target end segment point (polar coords again),
and a maximum distance the leg can get away from its target position before it wants to move (take a step).
To make sure the legs don’t all move at the same time, which looks really weird, only one leg can move at a time, unless a leg extends past the combined length of its segments, which forces movement regardless of the number of moving legs to prevent some really weird slenderman looking legs.
The leg segments only look correct due to the math behind the location of the midpoint. The end point and the point attached to the body move independently from each other, and the midpoint compensates to always be the correct distance from the end/body points. This is done by shifting the point to be the correct distance from the end point, and then shifting it to be the correct distance from the body point. Doing this repeatedly every frame moves the point reasonably close to the correct position, which is good enough.
I’m not going to explain the new 3 segment legs in my (newly updated!!) “spooder” demo project, but I’ll just say that 6 legs and 3 segments per leg is looking good! I still haven’t added code to keep them from bending backwards and stuff, but I figured it out in my head, so it’s just a matter of implementing it now.
Peace out and happy Spooder - WoofWoof
AH!!! That freaks me out lol Not scared of spiders but… Great Work!
Alright i took way too long to finish this for how little content or polish it has. You might even call it a bite-sized game…
Here i present: Tiny Threatening Tungeons! (BotWarrior please do not smite me for my game is similarly titled to yours)
A puzzle-platformer inspired by Tiny Dangerous Dungeons and Super Dangerous Dungeons, your objective is simple: Get the Key to the door.
Left and Right directions: Movement
Up direction: Opening doors in the hub, Jumping and Climbing stairs (you must continuously jump)
The game’s levels are accessed by a hub world of sorts. It is recommended to do levels in order, but feel free to skip some if needed.
As this is my first ever game jam submission, mini or not, expect some bugs, and note that levels may have some issues.
With that out of the way, here is the game link.
(Let me know if something breaks i might fix it maybe)
Small Game hast become Tiny Game!
Without further ado, I present,
I guess the reason it is the theme is the resolution and character size. 80 by 60 resolution with great art is a good achievement for me. This was sort of inspired by celeste, and I will have another topic made for this where you can make community levels! Basically, you are a tiny robot in the ruby mines of Drosmere. It is set in the year 2365, where humanity has had a series of massive wars. I won’t spoil the developing lore, but in every level there is a hidden lore tablet. Can you find them all???
Important note:
Seriously, the controls are like hollow knight, z to jump, c to dash. The tutorial will teach you all kinds of dashing, double jumping, dash jumping, double jump dashing, and many more. Have fun and please feel free to give suggestions for improvement. It will be hard, but don’t give up!
I slapped my screen lmao
