[Announcement] MakeCode Arcade Sports Jam!

Hey folks!

Today on livestream we announced that the next game jam theme is… Drumroll please… Sports Jam!

That’s right! For this jam, we’re looking for games that capture the competitive spirit of Sports.

Now some of you are probably thinking “But wait Richard, I HATE sports”. Hey, I’m right there with ya! I could care less about baskets, bases, volleyballs, or any of that other nonsense. But that doesn’t stop me from enjoying video games about sports! In fact, I’m willing to bet that just about everyone reading this can name some sports games that they like playing even if they automatically tune out any sports broadcast that enters into their field of vision/hearing.

In fact, many of the most popular game genres are all about sports and competition! Racing games, fighting games, battle royale games… heck even Pong is a sports game! And hey ESports are a thing too! Video games and sports go together like peanut butter and jelly.

And to be clear, while you can totally make a plain old baseball or football game, your game doesn’t need to have anything to do with a real life sport. Make up your own sport! Make a game about things that are sports-adjacent like managing teams or doing news broadcasts! Make a puzzle game where matching together three jewels somehow makes it so you get a homerun! The world is your oyster.

This game jam will be running from April 1st, 2026 to May 15th, 2026!

I have a question now this might be stupid but do you have to make the game within the time or can I give a sports game I have done already and if not being judged caould I still do it

Okay! Brainstorming time. Im thinking maybe capture the flag or a gentleman’s war. Something with action.

There’s nothing in the rules stating it must be made while the jam is active.
