Turns out, it was the forum updating! (yes I noticed 6 days after it happened
)
I might drop out of this Game Jam cause I don’t know where to go with where I started out with my game
I mean it’s still pretty similar.. but I don’t mind. It’s your game, you decide what to do with it.
27 days in and progress is… Horrible.
I’ve only made one character, I still need a character select screen and player two still can’t attack.
At least I finished the knockback physics.
18 days remain…
Thanks, it’s just that I don’t like copying other people/brocollies/octopuses and I admire your games a lot so mine feels like a rip-off to an awesome game if you know what I mean.
I’ve made an engine and 3 levels. Yikes!
I have a driving car and a menu + start screen. I need to work on AI which I suck at and basically everything else.
Progress
- 90% - 100%
- 50% - 90%
- 30% - 50%
- 10% - 30%
- 1%!
My Strat is everyday I work on one small part of the game and ONLY focusing on that, not popcorning around or smth. Although for me I just have to make 2 attacks for 5 different categories and then at the end I do an ultimate attack or finisher, then I just have to polish up the rest.
AI is the hardest part of any racing game if you don’t want to use tilemap a star!
I’ve still got a few features to add, but a pretty good demo has been created for it! I want to add a car selection menu, a HUD, a nighttime mode (optional, maybe not…) and a proper game over screen (which I’m targeting next!). Honestly, I don’t think I’ll come close to winning this jam. Looking at @Octodemon and @CopySprite, I dont have high hopes for my game. But I think I will continue this after Im done!

Good point, but honestly I think 3d would be better.
3D gives that actual Mario Kart feel with depth, where you can see the track ahead, rather than just a flat screen where you’re constantly fighting “speed-induced blindness”.
Plus, Instead of drawing like 10 different angled sprites for a 2D kart, you just make one 3D model and rotate it. It’s actually faster if you don’t have insane pixel art skills.
At the end of the day, school did get in the way of my progress for making my Game Jam game, but I will be submitting something nonetheless. Hope to get Top 3! ^^
I basically am getting there. I just need to finish the lobby and make functions in which a sprite can bounce off another sprite. Speaking of that, can anyone help me figure out how to do that?
