I would press the red button because it guarantees my survival. I’m not willing to put my life in the hands of 8 billion other people’s decisions. By pressing the blue button, You accept the possibility of death. If your priority is survival, then the rational choice is to press red.
We’re creating an unnecessary moral conflict where there doesn’t have to be one. Let me ask you this: why should I press blue when doing so means putting my own life at risk?
Those who choose blue are voting for the idea of an ideal society. But history has repeatedly shown that a truly ideal society is unattainable. Human beings have different values, competing interests, and conflicting goals.
Look at what’s happening around the world; wars, political conflicts, and other crises. In almost every case, someone, somewhere benefits from them, whether financially, politically, or in some other way. As long as people have incentives that conflict with the common good, expecting everyone to make the same selfless choice is unrealistic.
Where am I wrong by pressing red? If anyone has the courage to say, and give a decent reason, I’m open to hearing.

in conclusion: you dont need to vote for anything relating to a new veterans month because they have 2-3 depending who you ask! also people who think a pride month shouldnt exist are the reason it exists

This is actually a popular idea across a lot of game theory (To my knowledge- It’s a very deep and complex theory, I only know some surface-level ideas)
Prisoner’s dilemma - Wikipedia
Say we’re doing this test with a population of just 2 people where if at least 1 of the people press Red, only the people who pressed Red survive. For each individual person, pressing red is seemingly their best bet individually; If their partner presses blue and they press red, they survive and their partner dies. If they both press red, they both live anyway, although with the knowledge that they would kill each other to survive. However, overall, the best outcome is if both people press blue; they both survive, with no murderous intents.
According to the prisoner’s dilemma, yes, a few rounds of the game might show selfish behavior. However, over time, a population will stabilize to the best mutual outcome. In this case, getting at least 1/2 of people to press blue is more statistically likely than getting 8 billion people to all press red.
Here’s the closest example I can get to your scenario: There are hundreds of countries on earth, many with nuclear weapons that can kill millions instantly. Theoretically, it is better for each individual country to start firing nuclear weapons right now; if their opponent doesn’t use them they win the war, if their opponent does then they can defend themselves. However, both countries acting selfishly could/would lead to up to billions of people dying, just like in your scenario. So, theoretically for the same reason’s as the prisoner’s dilemma, humans will stabilize to the best mutual outcome: don’t use them at all, everyone lives.
Also, I don’t think those voting for blue are ‘voting for the idea of an ideal society’. If we’re getting every person on earth to vote, most people will not be familiar with statistics or game theory. We’re talking all of the children on earth, every healthcare provider sworn to never harm a patient, everyone who has ever loved someone or been loved, every person who has ever relied on others for their own life. If you knew nothing about the scenario, seeing one button labeled ‘everyone lives’ and one labeled ‘save yourself but kill up to 4 BILLION people’, I doubt more than half of the population is agreeing to kill up to the other half.

If everyone thought logically we would all press red. By pressing blue you save the people who aren’t thinking logically, which is fine, but, like, wouldn’t it be more fun if a lot of people died in this hypothetical? There is a reason people say to drift the trolly onto both tracks…

The only thing is that picking red means that if the people who picked blue die then you will have to rest with the fact of taking part in involuntary manslaughter, so the blood is on your hands. Plus, this also could mean imprisonment, resulting in your life possibly changing you for good, making you have a loss of feeling because of what you took part in. Picking blue means that no one would.have died by your hand, and you would not have to deal with the grief of taking part in killing others.
