For context, I’m trying to work on a demo of Coneguy 64 that just so happens to be (kinda) themed around cooking, so I will probably release the demo very late or drop the competition to work on the demo.

I’m 100% in the competition, but I will need an extension!
The short of it is I just bought a beautiful vintage drum set and not only is it taking a long time to restore (I’m on hour 29 of cleaning while writing this), I’m also taking on extra work to cover the cost.
So could I get an extension to 7/16 (like some other competitors)?
(Also, a little hint for my game… It’s set in a beautiful old rustic bakery the protagonist (you) inherited, but the original owner was a witch! Magical pastries ensue…)

Of course! It’s a very unique set!
(Err, instead of a TL:DR, the photos are at the bottom if you just want those!)
So for context, I move between two places a lot, and I have one in the other but not here, so I was on the lookout for one. I found this at a yard sale in the middle of nowhere really, and the owner was selling it for only 150$! (Amazing for drum sets)
I learned its a mapex venus series- mapex is a great brand, and while their venus series is a budget-friendly set, for a drum set that still means it cost about 600-700 dollars new 0_0. I was really excited, especially because one of my nicknames is venus as its my favorite planet :3
So, I go to buy it, and they end up giving it to me for only 100 (I guess I hid my excitement well enough to get the price down XD) and explain that it used to be the owner’s nephew’s set that he bought for 800 used. (That’s odd; no used set would sell for more than the original price!)
Now here’s the fun part…
I get it home (Nearly filled up the entire car) and upon further inspection this is the vintage version of the venus series from late 1990s to early 2000s! (As opposed to the new version from 2022). That’s great as the older vintage sets are made to last really long! Not only that, but the symbals are all replaced with sabian b8 pros! (Mid-range cymbals that cost about 60-80 dollars EACH- and I had three!) Some of the drum heads were also replaced with better ones.
So overall, it was amazing value for the price!
It’s also quite odd in that this color (Either called green gloss or hunter green depending on where you look) has no available photos online besides for individual drums being resold. The snare is also stainless steel instead of green, so it must be from another vintage venus series set. And I could only find some of the records about this vintage set using the wayback machine.
The only caveats of the set are that the nuts holding the toms on are loose, the crash symbal sounds a bit off and is loose as well, and the big one: nearly EVERYTHING is rusted. So hours upon hours of scrubbing ensued, totaling about 40 hours over 7 days… (That’s almost 6 hours of just scrubbing a day!) Its thankfully all clean now and doused in dw-40 so it should be alright while i’m gone. (I’m back in the first place again, that’s why I rushed to clean it before I left!)
I was in such a rush I didn’t get a photo of it clean but this is a photo I found of another vintage venus series in a different color:

(Came with a free pillow in the kick, and the tape on the drums is to dampen the noise- I should replace the tape with new stuff, but its really on there due to these being left alone for years.)
