randomuser is on break until mid august. @Taser does this mean @IMakeCode wins?
that would be very… anticlimactic
Eh there’s usually a chance that a contestant finishes their game by the due date yet it takes time to get through approval (hopefully it’s the same for @randomuser )
I do have access to her game, so in case her game fails to get through for a while, if I’ll have to post the game for her which could be a bit awkward
Here’s the game! I’ll post a tutorial / info on it later
A tutorial would be nice.
Really cool! I love the use of raycasting with nice sprite art, amazing game…
Tutorial will definitely be needed though… after the first 10m I finally figured out what to do lol.
Whoo! What a journey this competition has gone through. Without a doubt, this has been the roughest and most drawn-out competition that I have ever held on the Makecode Forums. But now… It is finally time we put an end to the chapter of CK history, CK4. Here. History shall be made!
THE CK4 FINAL RESULTS
But, before I go deeper (definitely not trying to drag out this results post since there’s not a lot to cover here), allow me to remind y’all about our 2 finalists and the road that they walked through up until this point.
===========================================================
@IMakeCode , a first-ever in the CK series and one of the most skilled MakeCoders on the forums, with his numerous recreations of popular games such as Undertale and Osu. During his CK4 run, he has won 2 challenges in a row with 2 masterpieces in both the cooking and medieval themes, something never achieved before in CK history! He, once again, proved his might as a skilled coder through his final submission of Bullix!
@randomuser , a 2-time veteran in the CK series, placing runner-up (second place) in the original Coder King and first place in the UAT1! She has also achieved many great things, such as presidency and programming MakeCode’s first AI extension. She had created great masterpieces left and right throughout her time in CK and UAT history, and she proved that she is worthy of being in the championships with her final submission of BACON ROCK RESTAURANT!
===========================================================
With that being said, the winner of the CK4 competition is…
OUR 4TH CHAMPION
@randomuser!!! With the final submission of BACON ROCK RESTAURANT!!! It scored a total of 99/100 (oof) on the point scale that I always use, and it was enough to secure the victory for this great coder.
@randomuser, as the host, I have seen you have participated in CK1 and CK3 and just fell short of the grand champion title, but now, after almost 3 years of competing, you have now achieved it all, you have now won the lofty title of CODER K– Wait no… I forgot that @randomuser pronouns were she/her. Ok, nvm, nvm…
Ok, @randomuser !!! You have now won the title of CODER QUEEN, the first ever one to be crowned! This’ll prolly also be put on that massive awards + achievements list on your profile page. I wish you my finest congratulations, and your CK4 trophy shall be coming out soon!
I’d also like to send my respects to @IMakeCode, who managed 96 points with his final submission of Bullix! While you came up just short of the trophy and the lofty title of CODER KING. You consistently performed well throughout the competition, and I remain with great confidence that future generations of the forums will recognize your skill as a MakeCoder and programmer! I thank you for all the time and effort you put into this competition!
=============================================================
Ima post the big in-depth analysis of each of @IMakeCode and @randomuser games shortly after this post gets through the approval stage.
With that being said, I’d like to thank y’all for all the patience and dedication as I dragged on this competition for way too darn long. I guess I’ll see y’all in CK5, the final chapter, then!
FINAL LEADERBOARD (CK4)
CHAMPION: @randomuser
RUNNER UP: @IMakeCode
TIED FOR 3RD: @danger_kitty @pecan4 @Table @TheConeGuy (wow)
4th) @goldtopaz
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!
It means a lot to win the competition with BRR (Bacon Rock Restaurant). I was inspired to make the game from seeing the seagulls at the beach drop clams from high in the air to open them and steal hot dogs from people It’s a game I’ve been dreaming of making since before I knew how to code! My little self would be proud
Thank you @Taser for hosting this competition. If you hadn’t let me- a complete stranger to the forums- enter Coder King 1, I would have never joined the forums in the first place! It was the passion and drive I saw at your competitions that drew me into this amazing community.
I also want to thank @IMakeCode for keeping me motivated and making this a real competition! The art and core mechanics show you had an awesome vision for your game. (The special effects on the attacks and menu screen are my favorite!! Very clear vibe) I know that with more time the games potential could’ve been fully realized! (You could still keep working on it )
On that note, I’d like to leave a note to future Coder King (or other game competition) participants: Keep your games alive! Don’t let progress on the game die out once the competition ends or the deadline is over. BRR is a continuation of my past Coder King 3 game, BRR: The Grand Opening Heist from over two years ago. Continuing a game saves a ton of time and results in one, expansive, polished game rather than a lot of smaller demos! If you have some game you loved making but has room for improvement, use that to your advantage!
Okay, okay, and the real tip…
In reality, your sense of worth or accomplishment shouldn’t be based on what other people think of it. If it brought you joy to make it, and you can feel proud of yourself for doing so, you should be! Your own appreciation for yourself is most important, don’t let anyone shake that!
I can’t wait to see everyone rise to the challenge for Coder King 5! Again, a huge thanks to everyone involved in this competition and those who continue to support it!
Just a question, since @randomuser won this one, is it over meaning new users can participate? I haven’t done one of this before but thought it might be fun to participate.
ck5 is coming
Yeah! CODER KING 5: End of an era will start soon, anyone can participate in that!
With that being said, a few days have passed since I crowned the champion. Now it is time that I release the modified Coder queen @randomuser trophy for y’all to see.
btw, special feature. You can hover over the trophy itself and use it as a mouse to get more details about the victory.
yay, I only submitted one game project and got third/j
Wow, this is STUNNING!!! I love the little details like the flowers and delicious metal shading, and my character icon is sooo cute!! Thank you greatly!
And I have just a small idea…
Currently, when someone who doesn’t want to the ‘coder king’ title wins this competition, their title is changed (Ex. to Coder Queen or some other royalty like Coder Monarch)
However, the NAME of the competition always remains as Coder King!
Why not maintain the new title until another person wins the competition and changes it again?
Why not… rename Coder King 5 to Coder Queen 5 because the last chamption used Coder Queen?
