I apologize for this

So. I want to apologize for something. For about a year I’ve been jumping from project to project without finishing anything.

Some victims of this are

My main problem is Thinking too far ahead. I always have a lot of ideas with my projects which makes it hard to stay focused on one thing when I really want to work on a different part. Overtime this deprives me of motivation to work on the project. Which makes me bored…Which makes me underwork…Which makes the result not meet my standards…So I essentially, stop working on the project and take a break from Game making for some time.

I also have the stress of meeting a non-existent deadline. This makes me work faster and spend an UNGODLY amount of time on the project (No joke. somedays I spend like 8-9 hours a day in my room just coding.)

So, I really do apologize if you were looking forward to any game I’ve quit on. Especially since I hyped them up way too much all for there to be little to no content to show. I feel really guilty about this and I think some of y’all might lose interest in any project I make because of the amount of projects I make that ultimately just…vanish.

I am making another game, that I plan on sticking with but I don’t really want to post much about it in case I DO quit on it.

TL;DR

I’m sorry for not sticking with my projects. I just lose motivation easily. I’m working on something I want to stick with.

(Here’s a tip from my personal experience:

GO IN BLINDLY. Don’t go into Makecode’s editor with an EXACT GAME in mind you want to make. You’ll be angry or disappointed when it doesn’t meet your expectations. I’ve fallen victim to this MANY TIMES.)

So…yea…thanks for listening to my rant I guess.

Most developers have heard a variation of this parable:

“80% of a project takes 20% of the time; the other 80% of the time is spent on the last 20% of the project.”

It’s really difficult to finish a project, and for a lot of reasons! Don’t let it discourage you, though. All of that work on all of those projects, “completed” or not, helps you to become a better computer scientist.

It’s totally understandable, dude. It’s just part of developing these passion projects. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve silently canceled a Diego game, lol. Like 20 times at this point or something (some before I came here). So feel free to take your time on a project and just enjoy the process, I’m sure the forum will enojoy it.

It’s completely fine to have loads of half finished projects, just look at me the only finished game i’ve made is floor 13 and robot survival lol. I’ve also spent over a year on Card Delver and I’m not even close to finishing it

Also real quick 2 tips from me:

don’t mention a game on the forums if you know theres a chance you may not have motivation to finish it, and even though the makecode forums have some of the nicest people you meet, you will STILL feel like there is a deadline ahead.

i face the same problems while im coding thats basically: “hey i just came up with a great idea for a game and im TOTALLY going to finish this one that im working on afterwards.” No. Unless the game you are making has gone straight downhill, or you just don’t want to work on it anymore, write down your idea somewhere so you don’t forget it.

Did you think my tips were helpful? (Be honest, im open to criticism)
