I’m leaving makecode, but this topic is for something more specific. For a more detailed reason why, look at the post i made in comings and goings.
this message is mainly directed for people who have been using the forums for at least 1 year but you can still read it if you want
i feel like this community isn’t the same as it used to be.
whether or not it’s changed for the better or worse is up to you to decide, but it’s definitely worth noting.
I’ve been seeing less and less games with actual effort put into them.
Remember. This is coming from the man with 26 unfinished projects and 16 bad games.
I don’t want the people in this community to become who I am.
This is exactly why I’ve made this topic instead of posting it in a different topic. It needs to be discussed a bit further, and I just want to give my perspective before I leave.
This community is incredibly talented, I’ve said this countless times. So it really breaks my heart to see that there have been less games recently. All there is now are unfinished collaborations and devlogs.
Unfortunately, this community is becoming who I am.
And I’m going to say this right here, I am absolutely pathetic.
Can’t even finish a project, always procrastinating, no dedication.
“oh this game isn’t even going to take off” is probably what some of you think whenever I release a topic, and that’s completely correct. It never does.
Never. And I mean NEVER be who I am today.
Don’t pressure yourself with deadlines and due dates, and take thinks slow, one step at a time.
I don’t really know what to put here anymore because I’m still jetlagged but I just want to tell you all to never lose your spark.
Don’t be me.
Don’t make empty promises.
You WILL regret it.
also- guys- please be on topic and stop spamming things in topics its really disruptive.
I would say that’s pretty good advice. Especially with some games I make. I start a lot of good games, get to a very tedious part in it and just quit. I try to avoid posting about making games too, typically because This happens a lot. But when I made one of my best games, torment — I got it completed and was very satisfied. It had lots of good art and animations that I am proud of. (Although the game did have a one month deadline)
Uhg, I hate it when I do that. It gives me a bad feeling. I think almost everybody has done something like this before, especially on a game topic. I always end up regretting it too.
I feel that sometimes… But then I get it back. Sometimes I think it takes inspiration like art. That’s where my spark comes from.
Its sad to see you go even if we haven’t spoken much, but I wish you luck in your future.
You are one of my favorite people on the forums and I hate to see you go. I also procrastinate, and lose inspiration, and never finish any projects, and I know it sucks, and I need to get better. But that doesn’t mean you are pathetic! I’m not that good with words I don’t know what else to say, but uh… [sends you reassurances]
I just want to say that i really respect you, and that I’m going to miss you, I know you feel like you are pathetic but i don’t believe that doesn’t make you an awesome person, I hope you know that you’re a great person, and i want to say that this is ALWAY a place you can come back to. I don’t really know what else to say but know that you made my MakeCode Experiences so much better. I just hope you remember us and thank you for your time and dedication to this forum.
I wasn’t going to respond (The rest of the users have said it beautifully, I completely agree with @ZeroFall !) But I’d like to add a response to:
Which is a point that comes up so often, I’ve already responded to it:
It’s interesting that ever since the forum gained popularity, there have been people saying it’s “dying”; In reality, the forum has only grown-- but users get busy, and because they don’t seek out new games, they think there aren’t any.
But have you seen the amazing amount of games posted to new topics every day? Have you played the most recent Coder King 5 games? (They were some of the highest quality games I’ve seen this year!) Have you SEEN the talent in the Heist Jam just last week!?
You are fair to leave, and you will be missed very much here, but if this is one of your reasons, I encourage you to give the new games a chance
When i first saw this i was genuinely hoping that it was an older post and was went back upon, but that isnt the case. you arent pathetic (this is coming from the most pathetic erson i know, myself!) youre just human, like all of us.
goodbye. Jupiter. stay on the gass- see you on the other end
okay, i admit my wording was a bit poor when I said this, but i don’t think that games don’t have effort put into them, i just mean that i haven’t really been seeing as many unique things as i used to on the forums.
it’s probably because I’ve been here for almost three years but i just don’t think ive seen a lot of unique things for a while, (not that any of these games don’t have any effort put into them)
for example that one wizard 3d puzzler a while back or that portal demo
I’ll be sad to see you go. You made some great contributions. You were one of the first users I looked up to here. I’m tired of hearing the same pessimistic speech of makecodes downfall. This is a thriving community. Nonetheless, jdev, your legacy will live on. Regardless of your absence. You had that spark, and I hope you find it again.
