I’ve been using Makecode with Mindstorms for years in one of the classes I teach. I’m familiar with all of the usual issues… brick won’t connect to the computer, EV3 folder won’t appear, etc. and I know that a firmware flash (1.10E) usually fixes it. This week, my students have had a huge problem with getting their uf2 files to actually be recognized by and appear on the brick. We download the uf2 files from the Makecode editor and drag and drop into the Project folder on the EV3. This looks normal and appears to work. However, the program doesn’t immediately run on the brick as it used to and the file we just copied onto it isn’t actually on the brick, despite it show up in the folder on the computer. I’ve rebooted computers, flashed the bricks again, used different cables, different bricks, the simplest of programs, personal laptops, etc. and I might get 5% success in all of that. I finally told my students just pack up because we were all so frustrated by this sudden problem. It’s not a problem with the campus computers or networks and we have no issue with this just last week.
I just discovered the desktop version of makecode and the files I created from those look just fine. Interestingly, when I create identical programs in the web version and on the desktop version and then open them in notepad, they are vastly different. The web version has a tons “A’s” in it whereas the desktop version looks more typical with its strange characters. Any thoughts?
