I am enjoying using the music editor right now. I am also playing A LOT of piano. Some features I feel are really missing are the ability to control time signature, volume (like piano, forte) and key signature. Also being able to have notes above the top and bottom of the clef. Maybe an advanced music editor that is more proper instruments like a piano sound, along with lots of other stuff for people that already know more traditional sheet music? It is great that we have an editor but… If I am being silly and someone has already made this as an extension, please let me know. @InvalidProject I know you make a lot of music. What are your thoughts on this, and some tips and tricks?

Hey! Glad you pinged me, it’s a thought that I myself have tackled before! For time signature and dynamics, it’s a sad situation where you can’t necessarily influence them, rather I agree on the matter of including Dynamics in a future update should there be any to the music editor. Time signature doesn’t necessarily need to be fixed, you can instead just count the notes you use (Obviously you know how to count Time Signature) so the best choice is resorting to clumping custom measures mentally. As for Key Signature, I don’t think it’s entirely necessary, and as of right now, it’s better to know your Wheel of 5ths when making music so that you can pick the right notes to switch to Sharp or Flat. For higher and lower notes than the current capabilities, there really is no solution and I don’t see a point in expanding them; it’s better to get creative and find inventive ways like switching instruments to express different pitches. Instruments. Instrument limitations also shouldn’t be expanded either (IMO) since they already have enough to make good music, and adding more outside of 8-bit would sort of clash with the RETRO music editor. Overall, it takes time to get used to. And I’m glad you’re playing piano and learning sheet music! It gets very complicated after years of practice, and even now I struggle with certain things in Music. Thanks for pinging me!

I do want to be able to, say do 3/4 time or 6/8 as in mantis lords. Again this is mainly a request for some sort of extension or an “advanced music editor”. Thanks for responding and I hope this gets seen by someone who might consider making some of this.

I see your point, but complicated pieces don’t require key signatures, and learning how to do those by yourself is great practice and can demonstrate high levels of skill and understanding in sheet music! As for the Time Signature quote, it’s clear you may have misread or misinterpreted what I wrote. I have written dozens of songs on makecode with 3/4 Time, 6/8 Time, I have done 5/4 Time, and even 15/8 Time! While I have no skill in extensions, what I meant by clumping them mentally is simply remember what Time Signature you are in! It’s completely possible to do all of the things you mentioned! In short, what I said was essentially to just “Keep In Mind” what your Time Signature is! Thanks for responding! ^w^
