My Mario fangame is based off of Super Mario World, but it’s very unfinished. I haven’t finished the Goomba’s programming (right now it is a place holder) and there is only one level. There’s no title screen either. I’m just going to post this for suggestions people could give me (if anyone even see’s this) but here is the unfinished build. https://arcade.makecode.com/S79256-12567-47323-90043
You’re on the right track!
I know it can be daunting to share a project especially when it’s still unfinished / unpolished! So good job getting over that
Here's my feedback ...
- Make the walk animation speed match the actual sprite speed!
- Fix “moonwalk” glitch when switching directions too fast
- Fix “floaty” jump (Find a good ratio between the gravity (aka “sprite ay”) and the jump power (aka “sprite vy”).
- Make getting coins immediately destroy them instead of an effect.
- Add sounds and music
- Have the lucky block do a little “bump” animation when hit.
- Make player do a small “bounce” or jump when jumping over enemies.
I realize what I’ve put there feels more like a “to-do” or "chore" list, but to me, it helps having tasks in view and knowing what needs to be fixed, added etc. Hope it’s the same for you!
Good luck and happy coding~
Hahaha…HAHAHAHAHA! Here is the link: https://arcade.makecode.com/S79256-12567-47323-90043 Sorry that this message looks messy. Task completion list: " * Make the walk animation speed match the actual sprite speed!" Um… I don’t know how. " * Fix “moonwalk” glitch when switching directions too fast" Impossible for me, a noob. " * Make getting coins immediately destroy them instead of an effect." Done, and done! " * Add sounds and music" I added sounds, but I’m not good at music. * “Have the lucky block do a little “bump” animation when hit.” I’m too inexperienced. " * Make player do a small “bounce” or jump when jumping over enemies." I tried and it didn’t work. Sorry! If I were to do all of this stuff, I’d probably need to collaborate with people, so maybe in the next version of this game.
Don’t apologize for not knowing how to do things!
Learning new things is a great experience and it’s very a nice feeling seeing how far you’ve progressed
As for the list, it’s not a must-do list! If things can be done, that’s good. Otherwise, it’s also helpful to know what things we lack / need to work on
On that note, good work on working some of them out! My advice on learning how to do things / specifics is to look for other people’s games / projects and see how they did the mechanics etc
Also the tutorials in the MakeCode Arcade home page are very helpful too!
https://arcade.makecode.com/S79256-12567-47323-90043 Here we go, another update. Some of the color has been changed, ground blocks have been changed (because I made them look weird and I wanted to fix them), level 2 has been added, Yoshi is working but they can’t use their abilities yet, and that’s it. I’m exhausted from working so hard.
add a yoshi dismount and let him hit the blocks…also give yoshi an animation…apart from thos, good job!
Well done!
And yes, make sure you don’t burn yourself out knowing when to take breaks is an important skill!
Keep up the good work
Thanks for the feedback! I will fix the game soon… Tomorrow because I am tired of coding right now.
ALL RIGHT! Yoshi update for Mushroom Kingdom Mayhem https://arcade.makecode.com/S79256-12567-47323-90043 This update adds Yoshi’s walking animation, ability to get off of Yoshi, and a slight nerf to Yoshi when he gets hit, you’re forced off of Yoshi because that’s how it is on Super Mario World.
NICE lovely best
The Mayhem Has Returned All right, I restarted making the game because of bugs (like not being able to hit the question blocks, galoombas not moving (they are different from goombas but basically act the same), and Yoshi has been removed for fixes. AND I noticed that the links update and every time I make a copy the others get updated too, so I learned how to do this:
(DONT MIND THE POSTER MARIO WORKS!) Bugs: Galoombas don’t bump into each other, you cannot swim yet, mushrooms have been removed because they’re glitched when you transform into Super Mario (AKA big mario), and that’s it.
ALL RIGHt! The overworld music is half done. It took about 30 minutes to finish half. And some things are missing. So, I’ll finish it soon.
Use links instead of that image
Okay, but why? Does it not work? And the reason why I used an image was because every time when I updated the game (or made a copy of it) the link updated, and someone (@Luke) got confused because of it. So, should I?
The easiest thing is probably to make sure that the “update existing share link” box is unchecked when you share. Then you will get a different link for each version of your game.
Oh, ok, thanks for the tip!
Okay then. Here’s the link: https://arcade.makecode.com/S25699-13999-03264-96591 Right now, Yoshi has been removed for bug fixes.
Yeah, I quit making Mushroom Kingdom Mayhem. It was basically just a Super Mario World reskin. Kinda like this
From the bootleg of Super Mario Bros. on the NES.
