i decided to make a game but i’m in waaaaay over my head.
anyway, i need people to help with:
sprites
some code, but not very much
new ideas
sprites again
(use the poll to choose something to help with if you’re interested)
now the important part: explaining the actual game!
you are the silly ghost dude. you just died and don’t want to be dead. so you do what any sane person ghost would do: fight the King of Heck for your soul. unfortunately, the King of Heck just wants to take a nap and built an unbreakable defense to protect himself from meddling spirits that want to wake him up. you want to get past it. you know, because of the whole wanting to not die thing.
if you wouldn’t mind, i’d like a darker color scheme, this is heck after all. (but not too dark, it should still be kinda cute)
@Josef and @pecan4pi, here’s the testing ground project. right now i need a moving platform and double jump. (yes it’s a duck but i don’t have sprites yet)
ideas team (mainly @TeddyB since you’re not doing anything yet) think of more things to add. i can’t guide you here since i can’t read your mind, so go wild. (try to think of enemy ideas, we need more)
Plus, we have some general notes:
the game will (eventually) have 3 areas of 4 normal levels each, plus a secret level (hopefully) and a boss level, for a total of 15 levels and 3 secret ones. you get a double jump, dash, and various pickups/ powerups, and the ability to look cute.
that’s all for now, but it IS a lot, so take your time working if you need to and leave your work here so everyone knows what’s going on.
Answering questions/ giving advice: @JtSpeedRun: these are awesome, but how big are they? the style of #2 is pretty much what i was thinking. @Luke, this is also awesome but on the small side. could you go up to 32x32? @CopySprite, yes you are in the collab. @BlastBoxGames: you play as one of the plauge doctor dudes. he’s labelled as “silly mc” in the concept art. @CopySprite again: you can switch your weapon. i’m working on this.
Also, so the thread doesn’t get clogged, here’s the Updates Doc! this will also keep track of any different versions we make. (sprites, music, etc.) and lets me give feedback faster.
And for the sprites team: we need a unified color palette. i’ll let you talk that out amongst yourselves, although we need some shades of black and white for sure.
ANNOUNCEMENT: NAME YOUR ASSETS EVERYONE
an unnamed asset gets deleted if you switch from blocks to python or javascript. this accidentally happened to @CopySprite’s song and game over sound because i misclicked while going to the assets tab. (sorry!) just type a name in the bar along the bottom to prevent this.

level or area? the only difference between areas is theme. essentially, they’re just a divider for parts of the game.
anyway, i couldn’t make the attack because it kills you when you try? i’m working on it.

you were here longer than most but still newer than my first post.
he should be bigger, unless we want a tiny enemy. 32x32 is the size for player and enemy sprites, preferably. (this essentially allows half-blocks on a tilemap)
As a member of the ideas team I would like to share a few… well ideas
It would be cool if there was some form of character selection. It doesn’t really have to be different characters, but instead it could be maybe starting items you could choose before a run. (more like the game ‘Skul, The hero slayer’ instead of ‘The binding of Issac’)
Either or none is good just wanted to throw ideas at the wall
