Time to make some tutorials
Joey made some fixes…Would anyone on this thread be willing to try visiting https://aka.ms/TEALSintroCS to see if it takes you to the right place?
My GitHub Teacher Verification Failed when I tried signing into my Github account, even though I was verified before.
So you got this page?
Are you both a verified educator and part of the repo? Or were you added to the repo manually?
It definitely works better; rather than a 404 (which I think is what we got before), it redirects to the MakeCode page with further instructions.
I’m no longer a verified educator in GitHub, so I cannot attest to whether verified instructors are redirected to the repo properly.
Oh wow, did you get promoted?
@BlastBoxGames Hmmm…? In what context? I did get invited to be a forum moderator (and I accepted), so I suppose that could be considered a promotion! Is that what you meant?
Yes, that was the page I was directed to. I believe I am not a verified educator, but I was added to the repo manually.
Yes it is.
Hmmmm, I’m trying to decide if being redirected is going backward or forward. Ideally, it would take you to the correct repo (which you should be able to access since you’re all members.)
I definitely think it’s better. It would be nice if it redirected even those of us who have been added manually, but because we have to interact with you all directly to even get that access, I think it’s fine if we have to access the repo directly. I consider us to be an edge case. If Joey gets it working for us, then all the better!
Good morning. I am trying to use the tutorials with my students and I am having the same issue. I looked through the feed and I may have missed it but is there a solution to this error? I really love how the tutorials can help my younger learners and I am bummed out that it is not working for them.
Hi! Can you be a little more specific about what issue you’re having with the tutorials…and which tutorials you’re using?
@KIKIvsIT
Hello!
I am creating some tutorials for younger learners and am trying to hide away the controls for going forward and back and also the ‘Done’ button (i.e. a single page tutorial with no way to exit). The docs mention that I can set hideiterations and also add a flag to the url but neither options are working for me
Is this still supported?
We are also struggling with available screen size. On out laptops we really need to be able to hide the micro:bit simulator to have good space for the programming area. In the editor this is no problem as we can just hide it to the left. In the tutorial however this function is disabled… Would it be possible to optinally have this switched back on so that the simluator can be hidden on demand?
Thank you for your help!
Michael
Honestly, I didn’t know that was ever a thing! We just added the ability to hide the “Done” button in Arcade, but I’m not sure that works in micro:bit.
@richard did you know that these used to be a thing?
nope, first i’ve heard of it!
i feel like we must have explicitly removed the hide simulator button in tutorials, though i don’t know what the rationale was at the time…
Thanks for the replies. Looks like it won’t be possible to hide the controls, not a huge problem.
Hiding the simulator though would be a great help for us to free up some space in the tutorials.
Is there a way to add a tutorial to a starter program? For example, my goal with my students is to see if they are able to correctly add acceleration and velocity in order to make a sprite jump. I generally give my students a starter program with directions to add in the specific skills I am looking for as a checkpoint. I have students who need additional support and following tutorials has been super helpful for them. I don’t want them to write the whole program. I only want them to add to a starter program. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?
