🌠 Weekly Topic: Favorite thing about the Night Sky

SO! LUCKY!

I live in the center of some massive estate, but I’m always SO DETERMINED to go out and see the stars lol, and THE MOON.

So, ever time the night sky is clear, 8 year old me would scuttle over to a nearby field, armed with his trusty lil telescope, and then I’d just look :upside_down_face:

My favourite constellation that I continuously see is Orion. I don’t know why I love it so much. Maybe just the contrast of Betelgeuse and Rigel from each other whenever I see it is pretty cool.

Then there’s my favourite star! calling all Harry Potter fans My favourite star is Sirius, in Canis Major! Actually the brightest star in the night sky. Also, fun fact, there are actually TWO siriuses! There’s Sirius A and B! Sirius B is a white dwarf orbiting remarkably close to Sirius A. Isn’t that ā€œSiriusā€ly cool?

Now, favourite PLANET… well, WITHIN the solar system, my favourite planet is Jupiter! It’s overall the most interesting planet we have in our little home! With so many interesting moons… Io, Europa, GANYMEDE (bigger than Mercury), so interesting! Lemme go through em.

So, Io is like an acid volcano wasteland  . It’s honestly one of my favourites, cuz YOU CAN SEE the geysers and volcanoes on its exterior!

Europa could hold POTENTIAL LIFE. It has water under its crust, meaning bacteria may have primed there. Humans are planning to go there at some point.

Ganymede, is just a regular moon, BUT SUPERSIZED! It would be a planet if it stopped orbiting Jupiter, which is just CRAZYYYYYY…

And now my true favourite planet… is not inside the solar system…

It’s called j1407b. It basically has the largest ring span scientists have ever seen! Look it up if you’re interested!
