📅 Weekly Topic: Favorite Time of Year to Take a Break

Hi everyone! I just looked back because I was curious and counted all of the previous weekly topics that the MakeCode team has posted and this is our 32nd weekly topic! Thank you all for continuing to engage with these and we hope you enjoy the conversations that happen in these threads.

This week, we are doing a bit of a modification on a @RobbyZero suggested topic. Since we might not all be in school, we wanted to ask people’s favorite time of year to take a holiday or vacation. Do you like taking a break in spring when it’s starting to warm up again and things are starting to bloom? Maybe you like winter breaks especially right now because you’ve been working for a while and are looking forward to some chill time? What makes a time of year the best time to take time off? Let’s chat about it!

My favorite break is Christmas break, as it comes with Christmas, no school, cool weather, and my birthday!

Winter break is nice cause of Christmas spirit, but as a student I cannot complain about summer vacation. :star_struck: extended break is the best time to work on a game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy early birthday.

As someone who likes to avoid crowds but also likes exploring, I like taking breaks during fall. There are usually less people around and you have that sweet spot where there’s still some warmth in the weather but it’s also starting to cool down a bit.

For me it’s the end of the summer early fall. Not many people are still vacationing so it keeps sensory overload at bay. I also don’t like city’s their very busy and the noise can be a lot for my autistic brain. I typically go to North Carolina.

I have two times of the year when I like to take vacations.

  • Late September/Early October. The weather is still warm here in the Great Lakes area but there are much fewer people out and about since school is back in session.
  • Early to mid-February. Wide variety of weather throughout the U.S., so you can go skiing or beachcombing depending on which direction you fly.

As a third option, there is a specific week in December, in between holidays, when flights can be super inexpensive. Summertime is super busy for me, so I tend not to take vacations. Holidays are hit and miss for me; my travel plans depend on what the rest of the family is doing.

My favorite time to take a break depends on the year. This year, I’m particularly excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, where I’ll get to spend time with family and enjoy the various fall and winter birds that are arriving in the Pacific Northwest!

A few birds I've photographed so far this Autumn:

Black-capped Chickadee

Snow Goose

Short-billed Gull
