2 feature requests for Makecode Arcade

Hi there, TheConeGuy here. I know these 2 requests that I’m about to suggest have a 99% chance to NOT happen, but you might as well try, right?

  1. Would it be possible to upload custom images and music/sounds into a Makecode Project?
(Maybe there could be a button to upload images in the editor, and if the given image had a different color pallette than the website has, it could try its best to change those colors to the corresponding ones.)

  2. More butttons. Please.

I agree with 2 so much.

I have no authority (or technical knowledge lets be real) but here are my predictions!
1 seems likely, its a natural progression of this web-based coding language. Its been proven possible, so someday I think it will be permanent!
2 is iffy. The hardware for the devices itself are most likely never changing, or atleast if they do it would have to come with an entirely new coding language and forums and community…

New Tab (github.com)

Music and sounds is not possible i think

There are several tools available that can help with “importing” certain media, including .png, .jpg, and .midi at:

(Shameless self promotion)

Will probably not happen because then the hardware requirements would change for Arcade, and there are already many Arcade boards made that suddenly would not support these extra buttons without modification. Although I heard of a keyboard extension in the simulator is on the list.

Okay, that’s great! But can you upload .wav files with this? I’m currently working on a Pizza Tower collab and need help importing some sounds from the game; would that work?

You could try WAV to MIDI conversion, but I’m not sure that would sound great for non-harmonic sounds…

It doesn’t need a Brand-new coding language just adding another button. And a complete overhaul of the coding system would be a waste of time.

Oh hmm, i think i worded that wrong!
I mean like when the microbit became microbit V2, and they had to change the operating system so much that the two coding languages, while extremely similar, were no longer compatible in some parts (code for a V2 may not work on original)

Yeah, so I tried that, and spoiler alert, it didn’t really sound like I wanted it to. (No hard feelings on the creator of the extension.)

So….I have two options; edit the sounds so that they sound good, or just make new ones all together. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
