Hey folks!
Ahhhh, March! Things are finally starting to warm up and Winter is about to be just a memory (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). In honor of the changing to a warmer season, the theme for this month’s game jam is going to be the great Outdoors!
That’s right! This game jam is all about games that make you feel like you’re going outside and touching some grass. Let’s be clear, we’re really talking about communing with nature here. Don’t submit a space shooter game or a game where you’re racing cars and say it’s technically outdoors. It’s gotta have that “things your Mom tells you to do to get you to stop staring at screens” energy in order to count.
Some good examples of games that fit this theme:
- Games about exploring or surviving in nature, like Grounded or Pikmin
- Games about classic outdoors activities like camping in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, hiking in A Short Hike, or mountain climbing in Peak
- Games about generating realistic natural worlds and biomes like Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft, or No Man’s Sky
Rules
- Games should be built in MakeCode Arcade
- Games should clearly adhere to the theme without the need for any extra explanation
- Keep the games PG: no NSFW, offensive, or excessively violent content.
- You must be at least 9 years old to participate.
- All games must be submitted by someone who is at least 13 years old. Younger students are welcome to participate, but it must be in partnership with an adult and with parent permission.
You have until the last Friday of the month to enter! That means get your games in before Friday, March 27th! As always, we’ll be playing all of the entrants on livestream at 1:00 PM PT on that Friday
