Since the latest update of makecode 2025, the Toolbox menu items under Advanced disappear randomly after saving and reloading a project. Sometimes it gets fixed by clearing cache or cookies for Makecode but not always.
In addition, there are likely some memory bugs as I have shared a project with types, assets and variables had students edit that template as their own and then their project randomly forgets the data as the project gets bigger. Luckily, you can cut and paste blocks from other projects which will restore the variables, assets or sprite kind definitions, but it is cumbersome.
Even making a new project, the advanced tab shows nothing.
We need the advanced tab to make and CALL functions.
This is preventing me from making a tutorial and my students from finishing them.
Yes, this is a bit of a problem. Have you tried version history? Under the gear in the top right. I often lose assets or variables, and I just go back to the latest version, which often is <5 minutes ago. Sometimes even that doesn’t work sadly.
So, i think there is a cloud memory issue; by deleting older projects I was able to restore Toolbox function menu back. However, the losing of assets and sprite definitions seems to be a constant problem. Normally we can copy over code and the definitions follow but its hit or miss right now.
Version history just clutched my new game. mods, is that feature made to be a CPR or smth
The more extensions I use the greater the chance that the advanced tab disappears. Can Makecode developers allocate more memory for custom projects? I have students losing code, variable and type definitions randomly and losing the ability to make functions is some highly critical errors. I appreciate te version control but what good is it people have to rollback redo code and continue this process?
