Chatting Area! Have fun!

seach up DosMidi. it’s an unofficial midiplayer for MS-DOS. Since I’m using DosBox, I can emulate the Roland mt-32.

Make a game about starting a factory!

Weird but true:
More people have won a game jam than get the “champion” badge
1 is clearly harder, but way more common than the other.
Coincidence?
I THINK NOT.

Gotta ask, clearly there are some people who have been here a while.
What’s it like having seen most of the others leave?
How has the forums changed and how have people new to the forums changed?
(Asking these questions cause I am new)

Must be. I hear a lot about the golden age of makecode. What was so golden about it?

I’m pretty new myself (August 2024). I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how “the Makecode Forums are getting worse”. “Mass exodus”. “Golden Age”. If you’re one of the people who has objected about the decline on the forums, don’t take this seriously, I mean no offense, but it seems to me like we should just embrace the new, and respectfully say our goodbyes to the past.

Honestly, the forums have become more off-topic, and social media-esque, so I’m not saying we should let it die. I’m just saying, while encouraging the new ones to keep on topic and create amazing games, we should forget the old ones. People like @AbstractDesigner were great. But they left.

The Forums suffered a decline, but I think we’re getting back up there.

My opinions from joining in early 2022:

  • There’s a lot more people now since I joined, although it seems there are less now than back in 2023, but that may have just been because I was most active then XD The people also seem younger, but I’m older now!
  • It seems more people care about the forums beyond just coding (like as a community!)
  • Even though I have seen people leave, new people join and rise the ranks to take their place. It is a little sad, but otherwise the forum might stagnate and never gain any new talents!

It was when the ogs of makecode were here I think like @UnderwaterAstronaut and stuff it was great but once some of the big people left it started a chain reaction of leaving which were the forums which made more to leave so yeah that’s what I think happened

Ah, 2023!
For me, it meant participating in unofficial game jams like Coder King and UAT.
A variety of games could flourish on the site, a rush of new users meant plenty of new games, and the pandemic was over enough that people could enjoy life but still stay in and code more than they used to.
But also… anyone claiming this was the ‘golden age’ is pretty biased. (Including me XD) It’s been two years, so most who were around then now have much more school or work to do. Plus, the forums has much higher standards now-- when most MakeCoders first start, they’re thrilled to get a couple likes or clicks! But after a while, people set their sights higher and higher, and might not get the same joy out of a couple dedicated fans as they used to.
So it might’ve been golden because of the rush of new growth, nostalgia, or both
