Just want to remind ya’ll that AI has some really useful uses, it is genuinely an incredible achievement built from decades of research. I think its good to have a more nuanced and balanced view and understand the real good that it is capable of, not just the despair yk?
i just remembered AlphaFold, a really cool AI that predicts how biological molecules are folded - complex sequences of DNA, RNA, Amino acids etc. It was a huge breakthrough to help visualise and model how these molecules interact with each other.
The reason why visualising these molecules are so helpful is because things like Covid 19, Vaccines and HIV are all made up of them, so its really useful in medicine and bioengineering in general.
Heres a 3D render I made with the use of this incredible tool!
( helped research and design these DNA parts (pink) and the custom protein (purple) which we experimented with irl too)
(my personal view is that there are many areas of AI but the one that I really dislike is AI content generation, like llms and image generators. I think that AI content generation is being pushed so hard because it makes such a grand spectacle and that promotes growth. Thats also why I’m cautious about the prospect of AGI. But by doing so, companies have also done irreparable damage to the digital landscape and also made it way harder to get entry level work, making it much much harder to get a start)
