I’ve the idea forever now to make a hair salon game in Makecode Arcade, and I think now is a great time to start. What I’m thinking of is one of those games where you get to be the barber of the guy in front of you and they want whatever hair style you give them!
I am of course welcome to anyone who wants to support this game! I’ll be working hard on it and hope to finish it before the end of this month. If you’d like to help just let me know.
@Chicken_joe, I know I told you earlier that I was wanting to make a game and I need help on art? This is that game!
I’ll post the project sometime this week. I haven’t done anything at all yet, but that is not going to get me discouraged! I plan on actually finishing this game because I feel like all I’ve done for the community is make extensions, and I’m passionate about this game, so it WILL be finished.
What’s funny is I was just messing around with the softbody extension and the outline blocks in my new mapping extension and really liked how it turned out!
I suck at making color palettes so let me know what you think of this one.
Let me know what you guys are thinking.
Let me know if you would like to be a part of this game!
It’ll be even better with UI elements!
That’s what I’m working on right now.
If you’d be interested in helping, let me know what you want to help with!
I meant for this to be a colab, but if no one wants to help, I’ll still be making the game.
this is really cool and I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it! and how could I be part of this game? I would suggest using a color palette with softer colors, I think that’d look really nice for a game like this. nice prototype! <3
@BitBot, I would love if you could make different faces for the game! I was thinking about just making a few different shapes for faces with animations and then recoloring the animations for different skin tones and such. You could help with this!
@Tatopotato, I would love your help! I do need to change the color palette, I agree with you on that one. Could either you, @Luke or @Octodemon, give me some advice on how to make a good color palette? I feel it easier to make color palettes if they’re small ones. I’m having a hard time finding a good ratio between skin/hair tones and objects but still get the fun colors that will attract the player.
@Rune, I agree with you on how the hair is really stretchy! I’ve been messing around with the code, changing dampening, spring stiffness, etc., but I can’t get them to not be stretchy. I’ll keep working on it.
Another part of helping build a game is playtesting! If you don’t find interest in art or math, but want to help, I still need people to give feedback on how they feel playing the game.
Thanks again for all the feedback! I’m excited to finish this game. I also might add a level mode, but that’s down the road.
I was working intensively hard after 2:00 pm yesterday and later I’ll post an update of the game.
Here’s the new version! I added Some UI elements with some new functionalities!
As I said, I worked hard on this version. I won’t say how long I was, but here it is:
I will need help making a better color palette because I’m trash at making my own. @BitBot or anyone else, I would like help making the background art as well.
YES! I feel the game would be better if the faces didn’t just sit there, like if there were animations for blinking looking around and making normal head movements. Just to make it feel more alive.
yeah I can imagine it would be pretty difficult, maybe use more extreme hue shifts and shade with more unusual colour combinations that arent the “correct” colours. It’ll allow you to use repurpose colours more easily as the style is less focused on capturing realistic colours
I followed your advice, @Luke and I did what you said and started with the main colors I wanted to include then worked from there by making ramps and then cutting similar colors. I’m happy with how it looks, but I would like to hear what you guys think.
I made the grays to the blues because then I can have stuff like water (yes I plan on adding water) and flowers.
@BitBot, I like the style of the faces, though I’m not sure what will be final. I created that first face as just a quick prop and was thinking about changing the style. Let’s go ahead and stick with this semi-flat style and change it as we go along, if you’re okay with that. Could you also make the faces no less than 60x60 pixels?
Thanks for all you contribution! Thank you Bitbot and Luke!
Before, I was using a lot of variables for all the math so I could fine-tune the logic, but now I’m pretty happy with how it’s looking, so I got rid of some of the weird variables to clean it up and keep it consistent.
I applied the new color palette. Still would love to hear what you guys think about it. Maybe something I could do better.
Removed the ability to hold the cut-hair function. I think it’s important for the player to feel like they are actually cutting the hair instead of just running the scissors along the head!
I added some sound effects. I’m using @richard’s sound instructions because I like being able to modify any part of the sound. Let me know what you think about the sounds I went with. If someone would like to participate in sound effects, I would love that! I would like to do my own music however.
Let me know what you think of these changes/additions. @BitBot, when you share your art, could you share it by importing it as an asset pack? That would make transferring them a lot easier!
Here is a link to a blank project with the color palette in the same order I’m using it in. Anyone who would like to help with art is welcome to use this link, too.
