To prevent this from happening again you can save your game onto whatever device you are using every now and then so that when it does happen again, you can reload your last save basically!

Yeah, it happens when you clear browser files. This is why I recommend using Github or downloading the games at regular intervals! (Github is better because it saves to Github servers and you can access it anywhere)
