Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a game, hasn’t it? Well, I’m back with my biggest game yet! It’s called Magnate (Meaning a noble person or someone distinguished by their achievements in Latin.) Magnate is a turn based fighting game where you play as a robot/mech to destroy your foes. Here, I’ll give a detailed description about the game:
Game Modes
There are various modes to play and I’ll give a brief summary on what they are.
This mode puts you up against a random enemy with completely randomized stats. This mode has 6 difficulties and can be played with any mech!
This mode gives you some background on this game’s lore! I didn’t want to make it too clear. I wanted to leave some of it up to theories and speculations.
This mode is where you can play around with things and mess around with random values.
You can completely customize your enemy to your liking. Attack Names, Health, etc.
You don’t get rewarded for this but I thought it would be fun to add.
This mode is my personal favorite and a little different from the others. You start with a new mech that is on the weaker side and not available in the mech hangar. However you can upgrade it by completing battles in the spire. As you progress in the spire it gets harder and harder. This mode doesn’t end until you die!
The Mechs
(Green Bar = Health, Blue Bar = Defense, = Red Bar = Average move power of the mech)
The Design:
Originally when I was creating the mechs I had no inspiration. I just drew what I thought one should look like. I think most of them came out looking good for the most part and I’m really proud of them!
(Fun fact: Each mech’s name comes from Latin words)
Their Function
I added 6 rarities for mechs to be.
Common → Rare → Epic → Legendary → Mythic → Prime
A mech’s power level is determined by their rarity (Defense, Health, Move Power, etc.)
Next there are 7 Move types a mech can have which all have their own unique functions. I won’t go into much detail about them. (I put what they all do inside the game)
How a Battle Works
As you can see there are 4 tabs in the battle menu. Here’s what they all do:
Attack Tab
This is where you will find your attacks/moves to use on yourself or the opponent.
Ability Tab
This is where you will find actions other from attacks that will help you in battle
However to use these abilities, you need to gain A points. They are gained from using a normal attack and it succeeding.
Status Tabs
This is where you can see the current status of yourself and the enemy (Health, Defense, etc.)
A battle goes on until one mech’s health reaches zero. The reward you get from a battle depends on the difficulty or the type of mode you’re playing.
The Mech Database
You can find The Mech Database if you scroll down on the main menu. It goes into further detail about things that are not really talked about. Ex: Move types. (Plus it also has a bit of lore in it)
It will be updated a lot as the game gets updated so be sure to check it out once in a while!
Making your own Mech
You read that right. You can design your own mech, and I add it the the game!
Here are the requirements to do so:
-
Your mech needs a name (keep it PG)
-
Your Mech needs a design (16x16, Adventure Palette.) (Keep in mind the image will be doubled in size so make sure you see how it looks doubled in size before submitting it.)
-
It needs one of the rarities I talked about earlier
-
It needs a cost (How much will it cost to get in game?)
-
It needs a Health, and Defense value, with 4 moves (how much you can use the moves and the power for each)
-
(Optional) You can add lore for your mech. You don’t have to, but it’d be really cool if you did!
If your mech is a little too powerful or it’s not balanced, I will balance it while adding it to the game
Extras
Making this game was really fun, but also really tiring! I don’t think I’ve ever used arrays and mini menus this much in a game. Making this game has really helped me grow as a coder as it required me to know things that I originally didn’t know how to do. This all started as a little side project but I saw how much potential this had and it became one of my main projects. I’m really proud of what this has become and I can’t wait to see what it’ll become in the future!
I would love some feedback on this game! If you have any ideas for new game modes, a new move type, or really anything you think would be cool to add to the game, I would love to hear it!
Thanks for playing!
(Side note: If you see an X by something it means it’s not fully finished yet and I’m working on it)
