I absolutely love using Makecode Arcade to make the games. I’ve been wanting to make games but didn’t know where to start until I found this. In fact, I learned everything I know about coding from messing around in the editor
building Fighting games platformers and more
but one thing annoys me the limitations of the Portable consoles
like the File Size, Color, and button limit.
Sometimes it’s not a problem for a game but other times you have to work around them like using p2’s controls for more buttons or spitting your game in half and needing a passcode to access the other part.
I’ve tried to get into other coding software like Godot Unity and game maker studios but I’ve never been able to truly make something I’m proud of on them but on Makecode I’ve made some stuff that I’ve enjoyed to make play and share! I don’t know what making something like this would mean or the work it would entail maybe it requires a whole new app like the software above. I think it would be cool to have another stepping stone in game development
But this is just me ranting about how 3 small problems with the arcade other than that this place is amazing.
To be a part of This community is like a coder’s dream. Having a community of creators, people who understand when something goes wrong and who know that things take time and effort. As well as everyone giving Respect Kindness, it’s just a great place to be. There have been some insanely great games I’ve seen done on this site and I doubt that we have seen the best that
Makecode can offer more games are being released that are getting better and better. To see people creatively work around said limitations is also amazing but I wish we didn’t have to.
This would be interesting, but the main drive with makecode and some others (popular example: Pico8) is the fact that these limitations and simplicity forces people to be creative. It’s also easy to learn.
@Brohann As a scratcher I say that scratch still has a lot of limitations but however is more powerful than makecode and people have made way more advanced games, such as 3d platformers from a 3rd person perspective
Yeah the should make something you can toggle when you make a game call Super Makecode which would add X and Y buttons. It would not be compatible with hard ware but not too many people actually use the hardware
