MakeCode Games Site is Live!

After some battles with the AI overlords and vetting it for a few weeks I’m happy to announce the release of the “MakeCode Games” site.

I realize there are piles of sites out there that offer tools, extensions and games listings but I wanted to really try my hand at it. This feeds off the forums and uses combined likes + clicks to drive which games are “hot” and “trending”.

The extensions area is still in beta, I’m not sure I like how it’s worked out but expect updates there soon enough. I know I’ve learned a ton already just by being able to quickly find what each extension actually contains and what problems they solve (without having to guess and install first, or try to read through the github repo manually). More updates on that area coming soon.

The other area around compiling your games is handy for creating “real” executables at least for Linux. In theory the Windows one works as well but that just might be my bot-swarm lying to me.

I’m happy to add/remove things as requested. Feedback is always welcome!

WOW this is awesome!
Do you think you could use this link for Too Many Funkly’s instead?

I saw it was based on the older one I post in one of the game jams which I believe is outdated code wise.

YPPEEEEEEEEEEEEE

although idk why the previews wont load lol the 5th one is the current version if anyone is wondering (i think idk)

To clarify how this works:
About every few hours I have a batch process that reads new posts and then traces back up that thread to find any new games (games it hasn’t yet ingested and added to the database).

This means if your game is missing, it was too old for my initial grab and if you reply to your older game it’ll get caught up and added to the list automatically.

Game dates are by when they are posted, not when they are found.

Game Jams have a special priority, so participate in the official game jams!

“Clicks” and emoji reactions in the forum drive the hot/trending categories. Also clicking the game in Makecode Games also adds to that (so using the site isn’t a lost click).

I really hope this inspires everyone! I know I’ve found new games and old gems (and the extensions that I knew nothing about).

How the heck did my pizza palette get in the “hot” category lol.

Nice webpage. Is it possible to add my Chase the Pizza: But Oversimplified game and my extensions (beside the RetroFx since it’s already on there)?

The games are attributed to the poster the first time they are ingested. This means it could be a later post with the same link by a different person “first time I saw this game, add it to the library”. The parser works backwards too since it stops the instant it finds one that it already saw (to ease the amount of posts it has to parse out)

I can manually update it if you’d like. Just post a link to your original post of the game and I’ll adjust it.

Fun thing is, since you share the link here the ingestion will pick this up . So hopefully if things are working it’ll have this game loaded in a few hours.

Looks like you already have a ton of copies

The system can’t tell the difference between ACTUAL games, the ID is the game it uses to determine a different game. There’s really no better way to distinguish unique games.

So your game is in there, just with a mountain of others!

YAY! My pvz games are there, though every single version is there, so it’s kinda cluttered.

also, I did NOT make this one, @BlueYoshi507 did, credit to him

Is there a way of opting out of the game ingestion, as a user.

Ya, i think there should be a option to opt out

Extensions are still added manually but are parsed and documented by a bot army.

I’ll add these to my todo list. First I need to get the search cleaned up a bit.
