Question about powerups in hoplings

I was originally thinking that Ryan’s spryte ability would be to mimic the powers of other sprytes, like a fire, water or fighting style spryte, for example, could be mimicked by Ryan’s spryte and have him get all the abilities of that spryte. Then, though, I figured I could have different powerups that would change Ryan’s appearance directly. Which do you guys think I should go with?

Aesthetics would be the only real difference.
