Is there even a topic for the wiki? It was user created too so it’s somewhat unmoderated, which isn’t great. Is this a thing we should even have / need as a community? Should this decision really be up to us or should the mods have a say? @richard?
Give the mods admin access to it but that would add extra work to them so it might get shut down not sure. I am a great contributor trust
well we still have yet to had a comprehensive list of all the best games made on makecode. When I find a new game engine, especially one as unique as this one, I want to know what the greatest games made with it are! In scratch, there’s tons of those lists, and you can sort by the most popular games. In pico 8, there’s literally an official list of the best games! https://nerdyteachers.com/PICO-8/Games/Top200/. Makecode doesn’t have anything like that, and I’m sure many new users or even some existing users don’t know about the peakness of card delver, conquest of duat, or zenith smash.
Even when someone DOES make a list here, it instantly gets buried under a ton of new posts unless they update it daily. In fact, I think someone did make one, but I forgot where it was. What good is a list if I can’t find it?
Makecode games by @Kikketer
Check the game jams. Those are some of the best and complete ones.
Others are good but often works in progress.
My site categorizes by the game jam and does a couple other categories based on plays and likes. But it doesn’t do anything more that that, I’m sure there are some gems that haven’t seen many plays.
I focus on more important things for new users not just games to convert a new user to an advanced user you must feed them tutorials to “advanced” mechanics such as arrays and very helpful extensions. IMO games should not be focused on as much because our goal is to create the smartest MakeCoders to play more cool games.
Agreed. I want MakeCode to remain educational as its primary objective. The trick though is having a nice browsable collection as the “hook”. Many students and potential makers start by finding a cool game and saying “ooh cool I want to make something like that”.
Even my own son got into scratch coding originally because it had a couple Sonic games. The game list idea was me trying to get more kids interested by having nice quick and easy to find games to play. Bonus I know I’ve been inspired more than once just looking at the home page and seeing an interesting game cover.
I don’t ever want MakeCode to end up like scratch where it’s just a means to watch videos or memes because it can. Makecode is amazing and a great balance of ability, flexibility and limits. The list just helps promote and inspire (inspire to share and inspire to build similar).
The tutorials and streams are good, but no one wants to start there. ![]()
