Who would like me to start a game jam/tournament thingy

Okay so I’ve been thinking about starting my own jam/tournament to try and get some more good games made. I’m hoping to come up with some good themes that allow for lots of possibility’s.
here’s my question would you participate if there was a good theme and good scheduling?

note

for this jam/tournament thing there will only be this topic setting up the jam and one I’ll make later that the jam will take place in.

Nice with the neat topics! :black_cat:
I’d only be able to compete in march, so I’m pretty much out, but I would love to see a long-time creator like you give us some really good topics to code!

Came back from the dead because someone I respect is asking about something I have experience in.

So occasionally, I spectate the forums in it’s current condition. And I think that a tournament format similar to CK’s and UAT’s are too lengthy (and for lack of better terminology, requires too much dedication) if you want your jam to get off the ground. So try making it two rounds minimum, or even one game—period.

When it comes to themes, it’s important to keep that balance between too vague and too specific. Example:

  1. Instead of say, “forests” as a theme, try something that is a bit more broad (allowing creativity and easier game concepts, making the jam flow better and keeping contestant’s morales high.)

  2. There is such this as too broad, and it’s easy to make themes that fall under this category: “planet Earth” or something of that nature is WAY to broad and general, this makes it difficult for some contestants to pinpoint a concept for a game (a.k.a., too many options, a real thing to consider.)

  3. A perfect median for these two themes is “nature”. It is broad enough for creativity, but specific enough to give participants some idea to work off of.

Alright Lucas (and everyone else), I’m going back to sleep now. Wish you luck, you’re great!

I’ve been thinking about having my own competition, but along with themes there could be certain challenges imposed, like reduced screen size, smaller palettes, set player speed, no tilemaps (or smaller ones), using a custom extension or function, limits to block count?. But not too limiting or too annoying (like no extensions, seriously, sprite data is too important lol)

MakeCode is just not one of my priorities anymore. But after a while of being inactive, I feel that occasionally commenting or helping users out doesn’t hurt, and tbh that’s what the forums need. Anyways that’s enough of me here, please redirect your attention to Lucas, it’s his topic anyways. See ya!

Those are great ways to differentiate your jam from other ones.
