Just a random question I thought would be fun to ask, whats your reason for using makecode?
I started off using it for school but now I sometimes code for fun when I have nothing else better to do. (And I like using the forums)
Mostly because I like the community. Y’all are amazing! I also own a PyGamer… or two… so being able to play my games and games from other forum members on those so easily is really cool! It’s also not blocked on my school’s computers (after I asked for it to be unblocked!) so I spend a lot of time
playing forum games coding my games when I’m bored in class.
I would switch but
- the community
- its pretty easy to use
- and the biggest one my school blocked a lot of other coding sites like flowlab GDevelop construct and game maker pico 8 and so one
Quite frankly i have no clue how to code outside of blocks, and other block based engines (scratch) just didnt land right for me.
When I code on scratch, I feel like I’m terrible at coding, but when I do make code, it actually feels like I’m good at coding!
To make em arcade games
way easier to make platformers here on makecode than scratch.
I have been coding for years and sadly I will probably migrate away from it soon to
“PROPER CODING”. I guess I got started at school when a kid in my class was using it to make basic platformer games and got to go away once a week on a Thursday and GET OUT OF CLASS. I begged him to teach me and within in about a year I was way better than him and still trying to push the limits a bit. Then I also got to go to that special class (no-one quote me out of context it is a good extension special class).
Lemme guess, you have to switch to unity?
In high school I have to switch to unity
No I have been modding games just in Visual studio code
I want to try but it is blocked I have no idea why (Linewize unblock it or else)
I plan on switching to Godot Engine
oh ok
Nice!
I’m not very good at coding and i’m just in middle school but next year i’ll be in high school and i’m planning to try really REALLY hard to make games wish me luck next year!
same for me but I want to learn how to code with java script or python one day
I create projects in MakeCode (primarily Arcade, but I use the other platforms on occasion) for one simple reason:
Because it’s fun!
I started programming computers when I was ten years old. I learned on BASIC and Logo, which are really fun languages, and I’ve used dozens of other languages. Professionally, I use C# whenever I can, although for some gigs I’m forced to use something else. (Often PHP, which is an awful language.) When I make projects for fun, though, I always come back to MakeCode.
Microsoft makes the best programming tools. Visual Studio is wickedly powerful and is my day-to-day environment. VS Code is a close second and really has become a powerful programming environment; it’s so much more now than just a text editor. MakeCode is right up there. It’s crazy how good it’s become in such a short period of time.
Same here!
yeah i use VSCode for literally everything i make (outside of makecode) because it has so many features but its easy to use!
I use it because a few years ago, I got the machine to run MakeCode.
Do you have to switch to unity in high school or do you get to keep using make code?
For classes I have to switch to unity but I can still code here for fun
