Have one of the bosses be based off of the game’s most common enemy
I love the “Enemy-Based-Boss” Trope.
You’re in a forest and the enemies are the trees but they can only attack by using their branches… Because trees can’t walk. They can’t attack you with branches either but who cares?
(Read this as if it has background music like an ad for a toy or something)

the gimmick is defending the base but there is a destructible environment.
No permanent upgrade but you can store a few items to use in other runs.
