I see your concerns but this is just guidelines not necassarily something EVERYONE has to follow! I think ESRB ratings are kind of unfair to game devs. in other countries (i’m in america btw) so I don’t want to restrict creativity, that is not my goal, my goal is just to help those on the forum and to make the moderaters job’s eaiser.
Thats a pretty good idea!
I think this is BRILLIANT. @Nerdiest I understand that you want this to be easier on the moderators, but again… I really have never seen something like this happen. This game “Rippr” so far seems to be the only game that had A LOT of blood with no notice. If the maker of the game gives an emoji, like this post I’m replying to, it will save a lot more time, and the whole rating strategy won’t be entirely necessary. It’s not that I’m planning to make a bloody game (bruh NO I actually hate scary games), it’s just that this may not be used, because, again, I’ve NEVER seen this happen, other than Rippr.
I suggest we also add another disclaimer: one for horror, for games like All is red.
- Blood!
- Violence!
- Guns!
- Profanity!
- Horror!
I love this idea with the emojis, it’s super simple but it gets the point across!
Dude same here, I hate scary games (Doom is fine and to an extent BATIM) and yes I’ve never seen this happen
Other then Ripper but it would still be nice for people who are new to the forums or don’t have an account and are just scrolling on the forums as a ghost (I did this for like 2 years sooooooo) to have something to refer to, and again not trying to limit creativity just help Fellow forum users and “Ghosts” (: also thanks @Randomuser! For the emoji idea (I completely forgot they existed!)
- Profanity!
I just want to point out that, in my opinion at least, no makecode game should contain profanity in the first place.
horror is a nice addition to it, but what does the forum mods think of this?
Yeah, there isn’t much need for it, really it just takes up more space in your games memory, memory that could have been used to make better physics or more story
@randomuser and @sarge your ideas are awesome! This Is perfect and doesn’t limit people! (It’s also (debatably) more affective then the ESRB!) so All who belive we should make this Offical (or at least follow this) please select yes!

For the profanity warning, it can be an indicator of censored profanity in the game, like “$&@#” (substitute in your head at your own risk) obviously games wit uncensored profanity should not be posted here.
It’s worth a try, I guess!
i agree, it would be a great idea!
It can also be for some mild words that someone might find harsh, like damn or hell. (I know it’s petty, but hey, I got flagged on the forum for them so it is what it is)
Hi everyone!
There is some awesome discussion here. All of the MakeCode team cares a lot about the community’s ability to come up their own guidelines like this, so it’s cool to see all of you care so much about these standards.
The forum is here for people to express their creativity and share their work. Of course, everyone has their own levels of what they think this is overly scary, profane, bloody, or violent. When we approve game posts, we do our best to not let users share games that are overly gory or inappropriate. Scary games are not really something we’ll reject if they’re not super gory. Sometimes we’ll encourage users to include disclaimers on their games as a proactive measure for other community members, but this doesn’t happen often. If the community wants game sharers to add disclaimers with emojis, you are more than welcome to enforce this amongst yourselves. However, this is not something we will enforce.
Hope that helps! Thanks everyone for helping our community thrive!

Awesome! That’s what I thought would work best!
Okay everyone listen up! This discussion was a great initiative, but now we need to follow through with it!
Thank you to @MakeCode for replying quickly and engaging with the community! I’m mostly certain that nobody in this topic really wanted these enforced officially, just something within the community.
That’s why I’m calling to action to everyone to spread this around. If game creators are reading this, make sure to put these markers in the description of your games! And for anyone else, if you see something you think might fit under these categories we named, write a reply as a disclaimer for others!
BTW, something else to add… I know this is about age rating, but we could also add things like flashing lights disclaimers.
So that would then look something like:
- Blood!
- Violence!
- Guns!
- Profanity!
- Horror!
- Flashing lights!
It’s just an idea, but I honestly think it would also add to this, since making warnings about things like that could help the community alongside the age warnings
SIR YES SIR Only in Arcade makecode right?
