[Announcement] MakeCode Arcade 2026 release is live!

Hey folks!

We here on the MakeCode team are pleased to announce that the new version of MakeCode Arcade just went live! You can find all the details of what’s new in the official blog post here:

But here are some highlights:

  • An all new share experience! You can now include a project description with your game when you share it
  • A gallery in the Tilemap editor! Check out some prebuilt examples in the gallery that show you how to use our builtin tilesets!
  • A new unfollow block in the Sprites category!
  • A complete rework of the music/sound pipeline! Now there should be way fewer bugs when playing songs or sound effects

Please give it a shot! If you run into any bugs, please let us know here or on our github at https://github.com/microsoft/pxt-arcade/issues

Also, if you’re reporting a bug make sure to check out my post on how to write good bug reports!

Love it! Unfollow (which is typically a negative thing, but today unfollow is my favorite word).
Also my son asked “did they change the sound? the drum sounds different” crazy what people notice

Thank you!

What’s the point of the unfollow block if you can just set the follow speed of a sprite to zero?

Because not everyone knew that trick (or any of the others to get a sprite to stop following another).

The point is that… It seems useful… I’ve never needed a special block to stop a sprite from following another one but it’s nice to have… For saving like 5 seconds setting the speed to 0.

The other changes are cool, but AI? I want to believe this was pushed by the higher-ups at microsoft.

Wait I talked about this and I got yelled at for misinformation, or do I remember it incorrectly
