Hi! It’s me again. I know it took a while to come out, but here it is in all its glory!
Gifted is an RPG featuring 7 bosses, 4 endings, and a lot of lore. Since the last time I’ve posted, I’ve completely redone the status effect system, as well as made a few tweaks to the general game feel. The controls are the same, though;
Arrows to move,
A to select in the menu / run / interact with objects,
and B to open the menu.
Sorry it took so long to finish, but I really do hope you like it! Have fun!
Disclaimer: I haven’t played through the whole game just yet but I did read through all of the text before approving this post and I feel pretty safe in saying that this game might have the most epic scope of any game I’ve seen made in Arcade
Sorry to be that kind of dev, but I played through the game again and noticed a lot more that I missed during testing : p
So, I figured a patch would be sort of necessary to minimize bugs and improve balance. The patch is below.
Tweaks made were:
Guards now deal less damage
Lashings nerfed (crit rate reduced from 15 per hit to 3)
Charlie’s Ball nerfed
Passing the Torch replaced with guaranteed Mystic Glass
Tears of the Mighty nerfed
Various bug fixes (both major and minor)
Let me know if you encounter any bugs, and I’ll do my best to fix them in the next update. Apologies for the day one patch. Have a good day, everyone.
This is good, but I don’t understand the risk system. Even if you don’t take the risk, you still take damage sometimes (or all the time idk). Furthermore, I can’t see the enemies health, which is very important in a RPG- oh right. EarthBound didn’t have one. But it would be great if you considered adding it. Great game though!
I understand the uncertainty around the risk system. Basically, when an enemy presents you a risk attack, you can either take the risk, which gives you a 50/50 chance for serious damage or no damage at all, or you can play it safe for guaranteed, though lesser, negative consequences. As far as enemy health goes, I wanted it to be kind of uncertain for a while. However, the Evaluate skill that you can learn allows you to look at all of the enemy’s stats, including their remaining hit points. You can pick up Evaluate pretty quick with the first heart orb in the game, if you really feel like not knowing is throwing you off too much. I hope I cleared up some confusion surrounding my project. Have a good day!
It’s still pretty vague. You have a 50/50 chance, but that means it’s all up to chance for the enemy to do nothing. The game can end your run if the game just decides to let you get hit over and over without being able to fight back. I was about to finish when one of the enemies kept attacking and the game was like “nah, let the enemy keep fighting” and I lost because of it. Still, great game though! I’ve never figured out how to make an RPG, I’ve always stuck to platformers because they’re simple. Tldr, the risk system can be a bit unfair when the game just decides to not let you fight and it can end your run in an instant, but is very unique. Have a good day too!
not gonna lie I love this game it’s definitely one of my fav’s
I love the turn based of it but i might try to use it in a game that i’m trying to make (if i do i’ll credit you)
