yep, your eyes do not decieve you, hoplings is NOT DEAD! here’s the controls for the new version.

basic movement - left/right
jump/wall jump/spring boost - space
sprint - enter
slam - down (hold) (or just fall from a high enough height)
wall slide - left/right (hold when touching wall)

Man, I play this game every day. It’s so so fun! I hope its finished soon, because it gets just tiny bit tiring when I speedrun the same levels all the time.

You know, a lot of people tell me the same thing again and again; “hey brainstorm, why don’t you use a custom palette?” Well, it all comes down to personal preference. If you want to use a custom palette for your own games, then that’s fine. But I really just want to stick to the default, because it’s what works best with my art style, and it’s what’s comfortable for me. So please, PLEASE stop bugging me about it.

Ok I have played it now and have many many many questions. So lets dive in gamers

  1. What happened to that cute little title screen! I loved that music! I loved it so much!
  2. Honestly, I’ve gotten so used to the J and K for A and B configuration that it just feels natural to put my fingers there. How come it changed? For all my fellow Hoplings gamers, I recommend right hand on arrow keys and left on Z and X for A and B respectively.
  3. Is this a test level?
  4. What happened to diving? Backflipping? Ground pounding? Pulse orbs? Not trying to be mean or anything, the new wall jumping and overall movement feels a whole lot better. Like really natural. But still, I miss those old moves, they were fun to play around with.
  5. Did you rebuild the game from scratch? Everything feels so different, in terms of gameplay and art.

That being said, I’d also like to point out some things I loved from this:
The movement feels natural, the wall jumping is just chef’s kiss, the art and animations have been simplified, but for the better-although chubby Ryan was very cool too- (seriously though, nice pixel art!), the frame rate is smoother than my brain (woah thats a lot), and nice use of the extra effects extension!

Thanks for not giving up on this game! I personally think it’s the best platformer on the Makecode Forums!

Well, I plan to add back the dive and backflip. Pulse orbs are coming back too, and the ground pound was changed to the slam to make it a bit faster, but I can change it back if most people were to miss it. Yes, this is a test level, and the title screen is (hopefully) coming back too. Yes, I did rebuild the game from the ground up, and thank you for the compliments on the physics and wall jumping. I deliberately fine tuned the wall jump to perfection, because I thought the original wall jump was a bit of a wet fart. Overall, EVERYTHING has changed, and even more things are subject to change soon! Thanks for the feedback, brainiac!

I love the graphics here! all I think would make it perfect is to make it more easier to move around in the game while running

updated the game slightly, THERE’S WALLRUNNING NOW!

basically, if you see grey bricks, you can sprint up to them, then run along them by holding sprint while overlapping them.

FUN FACT: the boundbot, one of the most iconic Hoplings enemies, was originally the MC of an entirely different game! the gimmick was that you couldn’t stop jumping. every time you touched the ground, you bounced back up!

along with the rest of the pixelart for the game, the enemies have been simplified for the better!

by the way, boundbots have changed! now instead of bouncing up and down, they only jump when ryan jumps.
