The Makecode website is rated as a ‘high security risk’ on their VASP report by ECNO, the third party vetting company that boards use to review and rate tools for use in schools. For this reason, we are unable to allow students to login and create accounts. Since we have Micro:bits in every school we are using the site very often and the workflow for students would be a lot easier if they were able to login and create accounts. Taking a close look at their VASP report indicates the reason they are rated as a high risk is because they don’t inform users when there is a change in their privacy policy. If our board were to get an agreement with Makecode that says they will inform us of any change in their privacy policy, then the risk score for their site drops to ‘safe with guidelines’. We have similar agreements with other tools, so I was hoping we could get one from Microsoft as well.
(Oh wow, really? Yeah, that doesn’t sound very safe. I’d love to see this!)
