Well, it’s time to finally talk 1 on 1 with everyone. You’re probably aware of the events that have unveiled in the last few weeks on the forum and I want to address that in a separate thread now.
I feel like a certain part of the forum has been descending into a bad place, and that’s not what I want to see. I love the forum for its friendly and welcoming community, that’s not hostile towards anyone. Nowdays, this is a rarity online.
So, for starters, I owe an apology to @goldtopaz. While I did try to provide criticism, my comments on your game have come across as attacking, and I think many others have done the same, consciously or not. So for that, I truly apologize.
Regarding the mean remarks you might have made in retalliation, I forgive you for that, and I ask of everyone to do the same, because it can be easy to make hurtful statements when you’re in a bad place. Goldtopaz spent a lot of time working on a game, just for the game to be relentlessly criticised, probably way too harshly as well. It’s only natural he replied in a hostile way after that since he felt like he was under attack.
From that, I ask of everyone to please be nicer when criticising others. As a popular figure in the community, I believe I have a lot of influence, and on that note I’d also like to apologize to anyone I made statements that didn’t come across as helpful when that was the intention. I have crossed a boundary many times and it’s very possible that this situation in some way stems from my influence.
We definitely don’t want someone to leave the community because they felt unwanted or rejected. I also don’t want anyone getting repercussions from the makecode team for going too far and making statements that break TOS.
It looks like we all made mistakes here. And that’s okay, because as many say, mistakes are what make us human. However, I’d like to argue it’s not simply mistakes that make us human, but rather learning from them and becoming a better person that does. I want everyone to do that. Let’s all learn something from these conflicts and become better people that make up a loving community on a friendly forum.
Thank you for reading and take care
I love you all <3
