I am intrigued
Is it glorb or blorg or is it blarg like teddy b
I record my screen on a Chromebook and use a webm to gif convertor
Uhhhhhhh I think it’s blorg. Maybe I should check the original game.
I have just undid two edits on the Makecode Wiki which were just removing mention of @JtSpeedRun? If this was you and there is a good reason please provide it.
After the first round of Sprite Stars, I plan to write a log about the development of Cosmica, my game for the qualifiers. Stay tuned!
Please make the levels save my sim crashes on the very next level almost always so that would be appreciated
Forgot to make this so now I’m rushing it…
The development of COSMICA
If you didn’t hear, Sprite Stars is a multi-staged game jam competition extravaganza hosted and run by @CopySprite. I decided to join this challenge from the beggining to secure my position as a good gamedev but also for fame. Jokes aside I thought it would be really fun! The first stage of this jam was the qualifiers. The theme was Cosmic and the challenge was that you cannot use the color pink.
Appon reading the theme and challenge I had a vision of 8x8 stars on a mono-green palette. This vision is the stars we see in the final game, but that is besides the point. I chose to make the game an RTS because genuinly I have never seen one made before in makecode and I really like that sort of game. I assumed that the appeal of this game would be the feeling that it wasn’t a makecode game, and thus it would use the mouse, and thus it could not be multiplayer.
I started coding the game with the basic systems required to play. Units, moving units, having the units attack, things for the units to attack, a bar for conquering enemies, a way to make units, and such. This suprisingly didn’t take much time, and all the while I was having ideas for the theme, lore, and art. Some things that took a lot of time was calculating all the sprites inside your selection box, and drawing lasers from the drones to the enemies. Making varying sprites still haunts my nightmares but I think I’ve got it. Another thing that hit me in this phase was the pure joy of seeing a massive swarm of units absolutely obliterate a star, and this did effect some design decisions in the future.
After completing the main mechanics, I decided there was not enough space in one screen and ended up having to add the camera position to all of the position values of the cursor, and that hurt to do. I really suck at the math part of coding.
So then I had most of the game, but I felt like it was missing something so I got to brainstorming. I had a few ideas, but this thought process needs some context. Sprite Stars is rated in a way four categories, each from 1 to 5. One of these categories happens to be complexity, but it should be noted that Copy said that a simple game could score high in this too so I now assume it probably means the quality of how the mechanics fit together, but at the time I concidered how to make the game more complex. The first thing I tried was multiple units. I ended up fully implementing this, but then realised one very important thing. If you can buy a better unit there is no need to build a massive army. As you can remember, this was my favorite part of the game, and getting rid of it would make me sad. So I got back to brainstorming. The thing I landed on was making it a rouge-like, and that was what I went with.
This might have been a bad idea.
The game already took about 20 minutes to complete, which is a good amount of time. And then I decided to multiply this by 14?! (there are 14 levels by the way) This ended up with a game that takes WAY too long, with no save system. This is bad, right? Well as of writing this @richard just played it on stream earlier today and seemed to have a lot of fun. Fun is the only reason a game is played, right? This is a good game case closed.
So that’s the development of COSMICA. If you haven’t yet played it, you should give it a try! And then vote for it in the poll *wink wink*
I might make an update later to add save files and maybe another song, but for now it is what it is. Here’s the OST!
Don’t mind what that description says, I never did do more songs. The title theme, Galactic Conquest, is probably the best makecode song I’ve made so far. The bar wasn’t low, but hey, shut up.
One more thing…
The Triumvirate
Me, @RobbyZero, and @Astro are running for president of the forums, together. Three heads are better than one, and we intend to do lots of community work if we are elected! For more details, check the speech just released on election topic. And remember, VOTE FOR THE THREE.
what happens if the brains turn against eachother
fire poster but I’m gonna win this with @hulahoop my goat
What??? What part are you even asking about?
Yay! I’m a goat now? (i know what you mean.)
BAAAAAAAAAA? or SCREAAAAM? what sounds do goats make?
Thank you TheEarth. Right now my Mention’s dont work cause im lagging. but thanks man. you da besht

Oh, well we don’t plan on destroying each others community work I think. If there is any betrayal plans I am not part of them.
The state of Nine Cores: The Glorb War
As I said at the start of this topic, nothing I post in here is a promise and will likely never get done. However, I really want to make this specific game happen. Nine Cores is the game that really broke the ice on if I am any good at any of this or not, and I want to continue it’s legacy by making a sequal, and possibly a whole trilogy of Nine Cores universe games. The other reason to make it is that I have a lot of Sci-Fi lore ideas and need to put them somewhere.
However,
I have not worked on the game in months. Recently I attempted to get back into it and ended up looking at the screen for an HOUR while watching Youtube in another tab. This sucks. (I did try a few more times, but similar results)
As I said at the start, I really want this to happen, but I’m really having trouble doing it.
Do you guys have any motivation tips? Does anyone really care about Nine Cores in the first place? Should I just move on?
These are all questions I want answered (and more!) so please fill out the following survey:
- I like the original Nine Cores
- You should give up
- I want to see more out of this series
- I will post a tip about motivation or something else
- I am willing to help with any bugs in the project
- I am interested in the lore you’ve been cooking up
- I think you stink
- I want you to try doing monthly logs
- You stink
- I think you should keep working on this game
- I will vote for the Triumvirate in the coming election
- I want you to do weekly logs
- I stink
- I will react to this post with
despite it not being a good announcement - I actually do read these logs, please do more!
- I do not read these logs

Not a log, I guess, but I just wanted to test the waters here.
Critter Jam!
Ooookeeey doookie folks! The Critter Jam is here and I’ve gotten to developing right away! It’s he game I’m making is called Bird Quest (title subject to change), and it’s about an avian ranger who falls down a hole and gets stuck in a kingdom of underground tunnels. To escape, he will have to explore, find upgrades, and beat bosses. If this sounds familiar, you will be delighted to hear that this his game is a Mertoidvania which takes inspiration from Hollow Knight and Silksong!
This game is really exciting, and I’ve already had a ton of fun developing it. I will not be sharing images, but one thing I can reveal is that the game will feature a save slot system! That’s right, you will have the capability to save your adventure for later, as it is very long. There will be three save slots at your disposal, so if you want to start another play through you can.
That’s all for now on Bird Quest, I’ll try to do devlogs regularly but I still want to leave an aura of excitement around the game to people will still be surprised when it is released.
Oooh man it’s been a while since I played those game (I failed for like 2hrs on mantis lords then won) looking forward to this I don’t really like deadlines for my games so I’ll code a game for this but I will probably not fully finish in time so I’ll submit it unfinished maybe
Yeah same I haven’t played Hollow Knight in a while (I haven’t even played silksong though, which is sad)
Btw I have 2 dreamers and I’m too lazy to do anything more XD
Mini-log!
Here’s the stuff I worked on over this week:
- Basic wall crawling enemy.
- Damage and death.
- Hazards which hurt you and place you to your last grounded position.
- Save spots which heal you.
- Started work on dialogue system.
About the dialogue system, it may be replaced with some basic stuff later on. I’ve never been good at making menus and stuff like that, I can never get the pausing right. If the dialogue system does turn out well, I may work to make it more modular and post it here for anyone to use! I always find myself in need of a customizable dialogue system, I can’t believe I’ve never completed one before.
This game is shaping up to be much better than HYPER SPEED or Nine Cores. It might even break my curse of always tying for third!
Just wanted to quickly get this one out there because not much has happened. The next log I post will probably be one of these as well, as long as the development is smooth.
