Use of AI on the MakeCode Forum

Hey guys I just want to suggest a new rule to ban games or works with ai generated stuff it doesn’t add creativity and it is a distraction to works other people put effort into. Also the forum is a place to get help on works and show other people’s works. Also when people use ai images it is just stealing other artist’s art styles. I do hope the mods take my suggestion seriously.

i totally agree, i find it hard enough scrolling though google, pinterest, youtube, instagram, discord etc… with the torrent of ai generated slop :slightly_frowning_face:. I want to see actual human art in this lil corner of the internet.

also generating ai art is super wasteful - it’s not some magical thing in the cloud it’s done in a physical server which needs energy and water.

yes PLEASE, it get so frustrating already seeing the slop be used in other game engines or just overall other media, and i personally find the posts on here with a huge paragraph of AI slop about their game useless and look, i think ai for helping with code (not making it for you) is good, it helps assist you and learn more, but for those who just use it due to lazines just should stop and i agree with future that AI generated material shouldn’t be allowed here, it makes the forum seem much less quality.

also if AI isnt banned and to those who use it (i know who :eyes:) PLEASE STOP

I Agree

useing ai as a tool is great
but the moment you use it for the final product its worthless, as the user who inputed a jumble of words had no creative impact

Example
if you create art awsome you used your creative mind to make somthing you are proud of and can share knowing that every pixel every vector was you and your idea

however

if you have a idea or concept and then ask John doe down the road to create it comes back with a finished piece

who created that piece?

i personaly think that John created it and that you with the idea have no claim to the final piece

Creating somthing has many steps
and not putting care into those steps makes the final piece worse even more so if you try to pass somthing you didnt create as your own

This is a great idea that should probably be added, I am tired of seeing fake art that is ai everywhere!

We do need the code of conduct to be updated as well to maybe include the Banning of Spam promoting games in other topics.

I’ll take care of the easy one first.

If you see “spam promoting games in other topics,” then flag it. It is against two of the rules in the code of conduct:

Now, allow me a few moments to pontificate about banning AI-generated content here.

First, it is unlikely that the Microsoft team will outright ban AI-generated content. To do so would first require the ability to detect it with reasonable certainty. As most of you know, none of the “AI-detection tools” are foolproof, and most are laughably terrible. AI detecting AI… If that’s not some Inception craziness, then I don’t know what is. Before any of you even try the argument, no, humans aren’t that great at it, either … as some of you may have witnessed right here in this very forum … multiple times.

However, I absolutely appreciate the pushback that so many of you have to the inauthenticity of AI-created content. It’s a refreshing perspective, given how much AI gets pushed in so many other communities.[1] I’m glad so many of you appreciate the artistry that goes into all of the aspects of computer science, as it’s such an important component to the profession. Programming, and computer science more generally, is a creative process, and I’m so happy that so many of you see that. Keep pushing back against egregious uses of AI, here and elsewhere. Your voices make a difference. Always be kind while making your point.

My current version of this: I really dislike how much Auto-Tune has taken over the music industry. I’m looking forward to the day that artists start shaming each other for using it and when the public rejects music altered by it.

The interest in and the use of “artificial intelligence” ebbs and flows. This flood of nonsense will wane just as the others have, as we figure out how to intelligently and appropriately use this newest iteration of computerized tools. Every disruptive invention has this effect … from the printing press to the pocket calculator to the computer to the Internet and everything before, between, and since. We will figure it out… We always do… It just takes time. When we do, we will be able to create things that previously were either very difficult or even impossible to do, using AI as a tool and not as a crutch.

I am renaming this thread to make its topic more obvious.[2] I encourage you to continue this conversation and debate the pros and cons of artificial intelligence and the use of AI-created content in this forum. Keep the conversation civil. I will be monitoring this topic closely, and I look forward to your opinions.

[1] I skip every single advertisement from Grammarly. You’d think Alphabet / YouTube would take the hint by now.
[2] For the record, this topic’s previous name was Suggestion for code of conduct update.

I agree with @Jedi’s statement it alienates people from wanting to join the forum also and makes us look like the ai forum instead of the makecode forum

i swear to god if i see one more piece of ai art im going to lose it

“A.I aRT iS reAl ArT” no it isn’t. Its called stealing from artists and you friggin know it. I’m never going to use a.i. slop as art, honestly, I feel bad for chatgpt, if it ever gains sentience, it would be blamed for stealing from artists. But that was its job, honestly chatgpt deserves better than to be trapped in a limbo of making garbage for lazy people who can’t pick up a pencil for once. And if you can’t draw? ASK SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT! Artists don’t mind if they get the chance to make some money! Besides, the art is better when IT HAS SOUL.

my god just don’t use ai art it looks like trash

I think this is a wonderful idea… for later. Right now there may be a lot of AI art and posts but those mostly come from the same few people. If AI art and messages becomes a thing that a lot of people are doing then it might be worth banning it. One thing I must say is when one person starts doing AI writing or art it could make them feel like there is no point to learning how to art because they can just do that. It’s awful how easy it is to get AI art these days.

I also want to thank everyone including @AlexK for taking this topic seriously I feel like especially the past few months there has been so much use of ai. I have had to use an ai detector quite a few times on some posts. It has become a increasing issue despite it not being banned I like that so many people agreed with my topic. This will definitely leave a big footprint on the forum. But anyways thank you.

A suggestion: Don’t use an AI detector. Use multiple. It makes a more viable case that someone used AI … although it’s still not guaranteed.

i’d rather play a game with bad assets that have effort put into them than a game with no effort but AI generated assets.

Wouldn’t John doe have put his signature somewhere and that is detectable? /jkjk

I think it’s pretty easy becuase ATM, the only way to use AI in makecode is image generation → put it into the Arcade converter. And both the LLM and the converter have very obvious John doe signatures all over them so…

I don’t like it when the only effort you put creating an art piece is typing a prompt into a computer.

Struggle and take the hard way, it’s more rewarding.
Even when you don’t want to.

Agree.

I absolutely agree with you if you are submitting a project or assignment for school it is better to have a bad assignment that is finished and turned in than a good assignment that is unfinished and not turned in
