Whats the sprite size and movelist needed?

same as orignal pixel smash or is there more?

since i havent seen any other stage submissions and had time to kill, here are some other basic stages based on Jumpy Platformer and Planet PuttPutt (hoping that multiple stage submissions are allowed, but there i made for fun more than anything)

i have scaled the size to be about the same as the stage in sarge’s character moveset test

(for this one the idea was to make the asteroid trail a semi-solid if possible)

Name: Tonitruum
Speed:Slow

A - Hammer Smash, Hurl your hammer down in front of you. Deals massive damage but must be on ground to use it

A + Run - Hammer Jab - Push your hammer in front of you dealing small damage

A + Air - Lighting Contact - Summon lighting in a small area around you damaging any opponents who come close.

B - Recall - Throw hammer out for short distance before it returns like a boomerang.

B + Air - Thunder To The Sky - Summon three lighting balls from above, each lighting ball hurls towards you hitting any enemies it may come across. Launch yourself up a little bit every time a ball hits you.

I’ve made a walking animation and hammer sprites as well as a stage in the link below.

Um, sorry, @Bifrosty, but I kinda used your character submission for mine. I hope u dont mind. Anyway, @Archer_Bright , here is my character! (I didnt do the course to be in the game, but if you like it, it is called the “Gateway to Tartarus.”

Character Name: ShaneyBoi

Jump Ability:

  • Devil Jump – ShaneyBoi sprouts devil wings and flies for a short duration, likely useful for recovery and aerial maneuvering.

Moveset:

“A” Move: Darkness Punch

  • A powerful punch that emits darkness from ShaneyBoi’s hands.
  • Likely a strong melee attack with a shadowy visual effect.

“B” Move: Kitty Sphere

  • A spiraling ball (possibly resenbling a paw?) expands outward from ShaneyBoi.
  • On contact, it scratches opponents, suggesting a multi-hit attack or damage-over-time effect.

“B + Left/Right” Move: Shadow Dash

  • A quick dash that engulfs ShaneyBoi in darkness.
  • On ground contact: He reappears and delivers an uppercut, launching opponents skyward.
  • In the air contact: He reappears and performs a downercut (downward punch), slamming opponents into the ground.
  • A mix-up move that seems great for both offense and positioning.

“B + Up” Move: Darkness Catch

  • A high-jump move, even higher than Devil Jump.
  • If ShaneyBoi grabs an opponent midair, he momentarily holds them in place.
  • After a brief pause, he throws the opponent and flips before landing.
  • Seems like a mix of a grab, throw, and recovery move all in one.

Playstyle & Strengths:

  • Likely a fast and tricky character, using mobility and darkness-based attacks to overwhelm foes.
  • Great mix-ups with Shadow Dash, which offers different follow-ups depending on where it hits.
  • Good air control with both Devil Jump and Darkness Catch.
  • Combo potential with fast movement and multi-hit attacks.

Weaknesses (Possible Balancing Factors):

  • If Devil Jump is too strong, it may have a limited duration or slow startup.
  • Shadow Dash might leave ShaneyBoi vulnerable if mistimed.
  • Darkness Catch may require precise timing to land properly.

It’s ok that you used my submission to present your idea. But if you are chosen you cannot use those player sprites or map as they are almost identical to mine.

I’ve been thinking about the Pixel Smash Melee roster, and I have a game-changing idea: What if Tonitruum and ShaneyBoi were the same character, but you could swap between them like Pyra and Mythra or Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros.?

This would solve two big problems at once—saving valuable roster slots while making our chances of getting in way higher. Plus, it adds a cool gameplay mechanic! Imagine switching between Tonitruum’s elemental abilities and ShaneyBoi’s raw power mid-fight. It keeps things fresh and dynamic while staying true to both characters. Also, our character would be special that way. And he’ll be OP.

Switch between the two of them with B+Down. Lemme know what you think, @Bifrosty!

@ShaneyBoi09 Ok, I like your idea of two characters in one. However, I don’t think there would be much of an incentive to switch over to either mid match. So I’ll make some adjustments to both characters.

  1. Make Tonitruum super slow but damage super high
  2. Make ShaneyBoi fast but lower damage.
  3. Change Shaneyboi’s sprite to look like this to fit with Tonitruum’s look:
  4. Remove/Replace ShaneyBoi’s Darkness punch so that you would need to switch to Tonitruum for more kill power.

These changes are to be make if and only if both characters become one.
With these augments I think a swapping character would be good. That is if @Archer_Brightis up for coding a two in one character.
(Also I like the down + B button to swap)

Hey, I really like your idea to make Tonitruum super slow but with super high damage, and ShaneyBoi fast with lower damage. I think it’s a cool concept! But I base ShaneyBoi off my personality, so I’m not sure about the new outfit. It feels a little too much like Whisper from the original game. Also, I’d like to keep the Darkness Punch as is, just make it a little weaker. Thanks for working on this with me!

Ok, totally understandable. Unfortunately I don’t think that a split character is ideal without these changes. I revert to my original response of:
If chosen you cannot use those sprites or tilemap.

So is that a no for the duo? cuz i can change shaneyboi’s darkness punch!

If we change the darkness punch then I’m ok with it. How about:

Darkness Punch - Summon a fist on the ground right in front of the player which punches the enemy up in the air dealing lower levels of damage but doing so fast. This is intended to be a good combo starter and encourage the player to follow it up with darkness catch or switch to Tonitruum.
(Also I like the Kirby graphic)
